It's strange, there hasn't been a single thread about it yet. At least, not that I've seen (searchbar approved, too) that wasn't an old preview or a trailer or something.
Anyway, I'm impressed but a bit disappointed. The controls are a lot better, especially with Wii Motion Plus, except for one major complaint- toggle zoom? Really? With no way to change it? Instead, regular iron sight use is replaced with a lock-on system much like Prime 3, but while it fit in that game, this is a shooter. Shooters are more precise, and I want my sights to be quick and easy. Also, for some reason the crouch and sprint functions are fixed to the same button, making crouch extremely unreliable. I've died a few times trying to crouch behind cover without the game responding.
Also, the graphics aren't very improved, but the art direction is MUCH better. Still not anything special but millions of lightyears past the first game. AI is also improved, and the weapons feel and function a whole lot better.
And one of the biggest improvements, the writing moved away from bland, generic action movie to an almost satirical tone with a few jokes that almost got a chuckle out of me. One of the recent, less impressive ones-
(After dodging a flaming train)
Protagonist (can't remember his name): For once I'm glad I missed the train.
Prometheus (the logical voice-in-your-ear-guy): Technically, the train missed you.
Protagonist: You really know how to ruin a good quip, don't you? (Yeah, this line basically ruined it, but this thread needs the context)
I know, you probably think "Wow, that was stupid. How could you find that clever?", and really, it's not that it's good, it's just that it's so much better than the first game.
EDIT: I realized I didn't really finish what I meant to say.
The game is still incredibly average. The pacing is terrible, with you basically begging for a room where you don't have a wave of 3-4 enemies and then move to the next room. The firefights can be fun at times, but usually end up being repetitive and, in some cases, just annoying. I'd give it a 7/10 on a good day.
So, have any of you put aside Portal 2 long enough to play it yet?
