I left the safe haven of my stilt-house in the lagoon, traveling into the distant west, and beached my diminutive vessel on the shores of a vast, forested continent. Strolling inland, I eventually came upon a clearing that was broken and riven by many great crags and canyons. My curiosity got the better of me, and I soon found myself traveling into the shadowed jaws of the earth, where no light had ever made itself known.
The cavern system I was traversing was colossal in size, coiling this way and that like a many-armed mollusc. After many minutes of travel punctuated by the placement of a torch to light my rocky path, an underground brook appeared before me, plunging ever deeper into unknown depths. I made the choice to follow it--curse my foolishness--and was soon swept away, leaving behind light and safety and barreling into the menacing blackness.
Any seasoned adventurer knows that in this world, light is life and safety, and darkness can bring only misfortune. I soon learned my lesson when the watery push of the stream deposited me into a great cavern where the damned undead had been breeding with alarming efficiency, quite possibly since the creation of the world. They thrived in the dark, and welcomed only their own.
As one, they turned to face me. Several fell to my sword before I realized their numbers were too great, and with great haste I leapt back into the swirling waters and desperately forged upstream, fighting the current with every step. I could hear the walking corpses groaning and splashing behind me, rotted hands clawing but fortunately finding no purchase. Ahead, I glimpsed salvation--a ledge above the torrent, with enough space for myself and a torch. I climbed onto the rocks, gasping with relief. I was certain I was safe here but I just didn't expect the fuckers to jump so well.
In short, I found a truly spectacular cave system, but lost two steel picks, three stacks of coal, a compass, an extra boat, and a full set of steel armor in the process. Not to mention enough rock to build a kickass palace. Oh well. Now I know, and I'll be better prepared next time.
