I've allways liked the post end of the world style fiction but finding it is quite tricky or at least finding great novels about it.

So I ask if anyone has any suggestions, I don't really mind what the story will be, hard sci-fi, horror etc but I want post apocalyptic settings.

I suspect there are loads of novels out there I need to read.

One that springs to mind is a classic.

The Stand - Stephen King

The only Stephen King I've read and enjoyed.

http://the-postpunk-group.deviantart.com/ There's a link to the Post-Apocalypse-punk group on DeviantArt I belong to. The head admin has a small prologue story on his profile but for books:
I like The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Such a nice story with a great setting.

It's not really post apocalyptic but chasm city by Alastair Reynolds has similar themes. It's a sci-fi based on a city that has been hit with a plague, though if I had to really classify it, it'd probably fall better into a film noir (or literary equivalent) mystery with a sci-fi setting, at least in my opinion.

The Road, as someone said before.

Metro 2033 is also supposed to be pretty good. I don't know myself, as I haven't read the book, but I've been playing the game.

There's a movie called "A Wind Named Amnesia" that I'm terribly fond of, but the book it's based on is not available in English.

There's a series called the Stones of Power, of which I have read one book:

Wolf In Shadow, by David Gemmel. One of my favorites.

Dr. Bloodmoney by Philip K. Dick is an excellent one and is one of the influences on the Fallout series.

One by Conrad Warner is a good example by a recent writer.

As said before The Road by Cormac McCarthy was probably the book of the year in 2006.
I'll suggest Warday by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka. It's a very realistic description of the U.S. after a limited nuclear war. It's a very interesting book.
