It's more of a long short story or a short novella, but A Boy And His Dog. You just can't beat Harlan Ellison.

Dies the Fire, it's a series about all modern technology suddenly no longer working and people being set back 1000 years. It's really good, I think the authors last name is Sterling.

The genesis of shannara series by Terry Brooks. Fantasy set in a post apocalyptic America overrun by demons and once men with whats left of humanity living in fortified compounds.

there is a book called wastelands which a collection of short stories set in post-apocalyptic settings from different authors....it has some really interesting stories in it

Yup, that's the first book of the emberverse series by S M Stirling and i agree, they're great. I've just started his second trilogy in that series, set around 10 years after the first trilogy.

Robert Rankins Armaggedon series, although its been a while since I read them. Some pretty funny ideas though, I seem to remember.
