Post Count Prejudice

After a while of lurking I've noticed that people with higher post counts seem to hold higher respect and authority (as well as popularity) than those with lower post counts. Eg: Some guy with 10 posts a news story, is ignored or is questioned for validity of article. Another guy with 5000+ count, posts the same story, and is unquestioned on the validity of the article and gets some posts in his/her topic.

So anyway, have you ever judged someone/their post on their post count?

No I haven't. People with high post count have said a lot more(obviously) so people see them around more and get to know them slightly. Especially since most of their posts are in User Groups, which is where i've met most of my friends on The Escapist.

I don't judge someone to be smarter than me just because of some post count.

Sure, when you argument against someone with 20x your post count you might get a bit worried as they have posted their arguments towards other threads far more than you have and thus have gotten more eligible in that field, but otherwise...

Nope. Not at all...

I'd like to see your Source on these matters.

But no I seriously couldn't care less about post count, it's nice to have a few recognisable figures though. If I stated more of my opinion on it actually I'd be slagged off as people are quick to defend those with UB3R posting skills even if they are dicks.

Eh, I don't judge people on their post counts... but then again I don't post all that much so it would be a bit hypocritical if I did, ya know?

I haven't noticed being judged much for post count, but then again, 90% of my posts are not in the main forums :-/

1 post is never a good sign... Especially if that 1 post is an OP...

I don't trust or respect people more for high post counts, but if I seen a lot of posts by the person and he/she seems ok, then I will respect said person.

Some/a lot of people with high post counts will act sort of douche-bagy at times, adn that pisses me off. It's like a high rank in a game makes you "cooler" while being a low rank automatically makes you suck >>. *stares intensely at Hubilub and Furburt*

I'm just playing with you =).

...

Or am I? OO'

1. If they didn't link the source, they both get probation, so it really doesn't matter.
2. A person with a big post count is usually already known here. It's not prejudice, it's the fact that you know the guy and are absolute sure he is not a spammer or isn't really known for making stuff up.
OT: Sure, I do judge people by their post counts.
If a person has 5K and has been here for a while, it's fairly obvious that he does comply to the Escapist standards and has more experience in posting.
How is that prejudice?

Yes, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I also give extra respect to staff members and people who were here before I was. It's wrong and I know it, but I'm not going to stop.

I haven't noticed anyone being treated differently because of post count. Although on the odd occasion you can't help but suspect someone who only has 1 post if they say something dodgy.

No, but I do kinda think that people with Morpheus and Neo badges are good people. 1000 and 5000 posts without a single warning if I understand correctly. It means those guys/girls respect other members and don't troll and post unnecessary topics.

I definitely don't judge people with higher/lower post counts. I don't see the need or the reson to do it.

I judge more on their join date AND post count. Some people have nothing decent with regards to contributing to a thread but do so anyway. Others have been around for ages. I admit, there is a degree of supposed elitism, but do you belong to any other forums?

I'm relatively new here and I appreciate friendships have grown and respect has been formed amongst veterans. But the same is true anywhere. I admit I've seen some sucking up by some newer members to the older members but I get why. No one wants to be ignored. Everyone wants to be liked. No one wants to be reported. Everyone likes to chat and do so with people familiar to them.

With regards to post counts, it is a shame that a newbie won't get the same respect as someone who has built up some form of fan base... but I think the truth is, you need some kind of 'FAN BASE' in order to be recognised. Validity? It's ridiculous, but these forums have been around for a while and you'll just have to live with it. I read these forums months before I joined and nothing has changed.

Just learn to live with the esoteric people. :)

One day, you too, could have 5000+ posts... if you have the time to waste. :p

I'm fairly, uh, fair when it comes to newbies, but no matter how long you're a lurker it will definately take you some time and maybe even a warning or two before you learn how to post 'properly'.

Because trolls don't have the dedication to get 5,000 posts. Chances are, if you stay for a long time, you're less likely to be a troll who just signs up to spam porn and then leave. Also, I don't know what you're talking about. I've never seen an article be posted by two different people and then the one with less posts be ignored.

I'll just correct you a little bit here. A "Warning", does not count as moderator wrath, and someone who receives a warning can still acquire any of the Matrix badges. It's only when a probation, suspension or banning takes place that those badges become unavailable.

For the record, I haven't received any negative feedback from moderators. :p)
