As much as people like to nit-pick the controls I find Goldeneye has aged surprisingly well. Particularly the music and presentation, the game was just cool, suave, just so freaking BOND!

Just listen to the music:

Eat your heart out Halo, this is fucking awesome video game music half a decade before anyone even knew who Master Chief was.

Goldeneye got the things right that are timeless, the FEEL of things, that come through in the music, the sound effects, the progression and scale.
I agree completely, especially with the music or, to go deeper, the Goldeneye sound [http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/archive/index.php/t-110557.html]. That one single sound that has become synonymous with 'Goldeneye' (It's pretty interesting to try and trace it's origins and other soundtracks it's been used in). It's funny how something so small can evoke so much feeling about a single game.

But yeah, Goldeneye is a fantastic game, it's a shame that it's gameplay isn't as good as the standards today.

Well, it's sort of like, Nintendo raised us, it was their when we were kids.

Microsoft kinda just went, "hey look, people are making money off these game things. Me to!"

Paying to go Online when I already bought the game. B.S.!

I wouldn't play - and I don't think I did back in the day - play Goldeneye for the fragging fun of it, it's like Silent Hill, you play it for the atmosphere, not the combat.

I don't think Viva Pinata can quite stir the same feeling.

True, but the feeling of complacency and content that Viva Piñata stirs up is also very nice.

The fact that Microsoft bought Rare after the brothers left was the main factor in my choice of the 360 over the PS3.

Ever since buying it, my head has been leaking from its banging against the wall at all the waste of talent and ability that Rare's team used to have and be capable of.

Seriously though, what were Nintendo thinking when they turned them down, even though Rare came to them first with the offer to buy? So many of the great creative minds are now gone from there, I just hope some of the breakoff studios can do a good job when Rare's last hurrah closes the studio.

I shudder at the thought that the same fate probably awaits Lionhead and Bungie.

KAMEO IS AN AWESOME GAME.
But what does Rare do now? Avatar clothes!!!
And there is a lot of potential and good franchises that I wish nintendo start making those games.
I mean just imagine a new Jet Force Gemini for Wii, It will be the direct rival of Uncharted and Gears. That will be awesome because those franchises need that to be better

Does Lionhead even have credibility right now? I mean, who really gives a shit about Fable?

No joke. Lionhead has only ever made one good game. Black and White. And it wasn't good enough to give them a pass on all the trash they've made since.
I just looked up Lionhead on wikipedia to check if they made Populous: The Beginning (got it wrong, that was Bullfrog) and noticed that they were the ones responsible for The Movies. Lionhead, you absolute bastards. What a piece of rubbish that was.

I certainly wouldn't say that it was Microsoft's fault that Rare started to decline, (though I can't imagine that they helped much either) but there's no way one could sanely argue that Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Kinect Sports, or even Viva Pinata are in the same ball park as Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, DKC1-3, DK64, Goldeneye, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, etc, in terms of quality.

Not even Halo: Reach and Oblivion compare to Banjo-Tooie....yea I said it.

Not only are they not even in the same ballpark, they're in different countries.

That game was simply amazing.
