So there's a rumor that Fallout 4 is set in Boston. I'm admitting to being somewhat disappointed, since I wanted to see the NCR expanding across the West. It got me thinking- can anyone come up with examples of post-post-apocalyptic fiction? I mean where the bombs have fallen, but everyone's starting to put themselves back together. The only example I can think of (aside from New Vegas) is the obscure book A Canticle for Leibowitz, about a group of monks preserving knowledge through a nuclear-caused Dark Age.
(Oh, and please keep the Fallout 3 vs. New Vegas bickering to their own threads. I enjoy the argument too, it's just not the place here.)

Fallout 1 and 2 did it pretty well.
Yeah, I could kinda see it in FO1, haven't played FO2 but heard it had the beginnings of the NCR in it. I was looking for examples other than Fallout, though.

Eh, more Fallout 2 than 1; sure 1 had small elements of it but there was still a lot of "Barely hanging in there" about it.

.
It's MORMONS. I just want to see their religion and society in a post apocalyptic society and how NOW it all makes sense that the garden of eden was in the USA.

The first thing that came to my mind was Fist of the North Star. I don't think it was that good but it's considered a classic. It's really a love-it-or-hate-it anime. I think it has a video game based on it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

There's also an easter egg on the Lonesome Road DLC referencing it. You can craft a unique deathclaw gauntlet called Fist of the North Rawr.
