What I'm wondering is if posting in troll threads can be good or if it's just bad.

On the Pro side, if you post in a troll thread, it gets bumped to the front page and more people will report it, getting them banned quicker but it does give them what they want.

On the other hand, if we simply don't post the troll will get bored and go look at something shiny but trolls are stupid so they will probably think something along the lines of:

Troll said:
1 R P1S1N D3M 0F S0 MCH D3Y D0TN P0ST SO 1 W1L BUMP THR3D
So what do you think is the right choice?

Edit: Damn hit post before I could add a poll

I just post to get my count up when I'm on posts like that, so I don't really care. Oh, and I didn't actually read the thread, you just couldn't keep my interest.

Sometime's it's funny, when people derail their threads (but I think that's really frowned now here) but I find it hilarious when a troll is new. There was a thread on another site I was on, where people cornered him, and lost.

Now that defined "Fail troll is fail."

I often post on them, sometimes derailing them to become somewhat productive before it gets locked.

Bad. Just leave them alone. If the staff of a particular site won't deal with them/are trolls themselves then it is time to leave that site well alone.

There really isn't a point in dealing with idiots who see other internet users as entertainment, rather than people.

Isn't that already a component of a hillbilly flamethrower? No, what would be worse, is giving Auto Shotguns to hillbillies.

The AA-12. Search it up.

I do, but unlike most others I remain civil rather than throwing a fit at someone I don't know.

It is hilarious to watch people swear and insult each other over the internet. Way to call out someone you likely don't know and will never meet. The superior entanglement of swears and grammatical errors really stick it to those types of people. It's not like they realize how futile hurling insults over the net really is or anything.

It's never a good idea.
I would really love to see a troll thread locked without a single post in it.
Which has only happened once to my knowledge.

Yes, very amazed.
At the gun, and the sheer stupidity of the people who would create a monster like that.

I usually try to politely say that this sort of behaviour isn't well tolerated by the Escapist community, but that's about it. The last thing you want to do is feed them or give them a reason to keep doing it.

A few others and I have once in an advertising thread (the OP went troll in short time) and became friends because of it, not to mention all sorts of other forum sillyness and partying. So sometimes yes, posting in a troll thread can lead to good times. Only if you're appropriately silly and do some derailing, though.
