Posting oddities.

When I post(or not) on the forums, any forums, I tend to do things I find a bit odd...

Firstly, I always copy my posts before hitting the "Post" button, something I picked up from a forum that was quite unreliable, for a game long shut down.

Secondly, I'll often type in a whole post... and then just switch the site without posting thinking "the f- do I care?".

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one doing such odd little things all the time, and today, I got curious about other peoples posting oddities.

So... anyone got any to share?

Haha I do both of those on occasion. Here on escapist I tend to only lose the posts that I spend at least ten minutes typing, so I've gotten in the habit of copying before I click post. The second thing is true for me as well, but not as common as the first. I usually don't want to have wasted the time I spent typing a whole post, so if I DO do it, I do it after the first few words.

I'm not sure I have any weird posting habits...

I suppose I avoid posting lots of text at once.

Even the threads I make don't have a huge OP.

I for some reason write snap instead of snip when I snip quotes in my reply. Mostly because lulz guise this is my original joke do not steal aren't I creative?

I've done the second every once in a while, mostly for topics already teetering on the edge of a flame war. Get about halfway through a post and decide I really don't want to get involved.

All of this is my own original work.

You should really stop stealing it.

It's not nice.
You are just an impostor! I am the true and Original Daystar Clarion! You are nothing but that damn night guy synonym for Clarion something!

Help need detected. Introducing Lazarus - an addon for Firefox and Chrome. You never ever need to do the copy thing again - Lazarus automatically saves snapshots of the text you type. If the forums swallow it, you're still just a few clicks away from restoration but not only that - if you accidentally close the window, if the browser crashes, if your PC restarts, if it decides to catch on fire (assuming it's not destroyed, of course) Lazarus would still keep a copy of the text. It's seriously awesome and it improves my lifestyle.

It saved me after a particular website totally pissed me off - if you clicked a bit to the side of the comment box, everything written would disappear. With no chance of recovery - not even undo or back can help. Unless you have Lazarus.

Anyway, if I refer to a user, I usually do by their full username, proper capitalisation and all. Preferably in bold. I just think it's a basic form of respect to not mangle other people's handles. Well, unless a user has a common "nickname" in the community, I may use that instead. Say, Daystar Clarion is also called Daystar.

And another habit that I have for the Escapist only - when writing the tags for formatting, I would use the HTML version for HTML tags, so the italics and bold are in , but any BBcode is in square brackets, so when hyperlinking or embedding image (since the BBcode for those is faster to type than the HTML tag) or using spoilers. In other words, if it's a BBcode tag, I would write it as BBcode, if it's an HTML tag, I'd write it as HTML. No particular reason for that, though, it just feels better that way.

I do that if the post is quite long. If it is short I don't even bother.

I do this all the time. Posting oddities I've noticed? Well, there is this .50 Caliber Cow guy who posts links to cyriak videos under almost all his posts. I always thought he was doing it just to be unique. Meh, whatever.

Myself? I tend to post first and edit later sometimes. Or I'll take too damn long and by the time I get a post in which I am quoting someone other people have done the same thing.

I have a habit of removing insults from my posts after having already typed them several times and then deciding, nah, it really isn't worth it. I tend to use very specific wording when I am in the R&P section so as not to exclude my actual viewpoint when arguing on something I have a moderate stance on. No one ever notices this and always assumes I hold the exact opposite view of the one I am arguing against. I go to R&P religion discussions, write a full post, then never post it because it is never worth the hassle. I try to derail threads I am certain will lead to flame wars. I will make a joke in part of my post and then go on to make my point without making it clear that the first part was a joke. This occasionally confuses people and leads to the arguing with me over my joke. I don't tend to post in threads that have passed one page unless I was quoted there. I arrange my points into numbered lists rather than do the quote separation thing.

I do both of those constantly. I'm always paranoid that something's going to happen and all of the text I've written is going to disappear if I accidentally navigate to another page or through some strange and unlikely occurrence highlight everything and press delete accidentally. Also I have this notion in my head that if I get the captcha wrong the entire post will be deleted. I haven't dared to test it at risk of losing my perfect captcha streak.

...Streak just ended. Post is safe

You do have a weird posting habbit, you always have to be one of the 5 first ones in a post, IN EVERY DAMN THREAD!

On Topic:
I have the "write a post and just delete it fault", doesn't happen often but occasionally.

I will type out my opinion on something then just delete it and close the tab because often I'll feel like everyone else has already covered what I would say. Must mean you guys are awesome that you think like me.

I often post without proof-reading.

And I usually come up with something better to post after I've already posted, leading to replies well I'm trying to fix.

Quite irritating.

Do that a hell of a lot too. Be glad escapist forums, be very glad.

The only habit I seem to have within posting or language that I can see clearly is the removal of pronouns from within sentences, usually the start of them.

Firefox saves text on the previous page automatically, but there are addons that'll do it for Chrome (and if you're on IE, you need to change anyway).

I tend to edit my posts quite heavily if they're relatively long, and proofread them. So they get exponentially harder to write with length.
