Pot gets a bad reputation the same way alcohol gets a bad reputation.
Sure, there are people who enjoy it for the sake of enjoying it and can do so responsibly. But, then there are the people who indulge in it to escape their problems or their "problems" instead of growing up and actually dealing with them. And then there are the idiots who get fucked up and decide it would be a good time to drive, or play with weapons, or operate heavy equipment.
That paragraph could be used to describe either one of those things with 100% equality and accuracy. Difference being that one is more illegal than the other.
I have never done either one, and never plan to.

I think a lot of people turn into dickheads after they start smoking weed because it's a new thing for them, and they have often just gotten involved in a lifestyle that they have half fantasized about. This is an atrocious paragraph, let me try again in a different fashion, as a kind of example.
I started smoking weed almost a year ago. I tried it a couple of times and then got into it a bit too much, 2 or 3 times a week for a month or so. Before this, I had always seen it as an almost taboo, nothing too bad, but generally frowned upon. As a result, when I started smoking, not only was I enjoying it, but I had added an aspect to my life that I had seen to be rebellious and for a different group of people, and I felt a little bit cool doing it. Being an extremely intelligent and profoundly wise person (and with a little help from my girlfriend), I realised I was being a bit of a dick, and that fun as it is, smoking weed is not cool.
I now smoke weed occasionally, maybe once every couple of weeks, and enjoy it simply for itself and hanging around with friends, and it is no cooler than drinking alcohol or wearing speedos.
Other people I've seen never quite let go of this idea that it's a cool thing, and they change their personality to suit their views, rather than the inverse.

At last, a pot smoker, or a smoker in general who has made a claim that he/she does it upon their own free will and are not drawn back by it! How refreshing.
Sadly, despite your efforts to explain to the community that you are different, its been done before, and more convincingly. You dont need to prove to us that you're secure. Just believe it and continue on.

I smoke pot often. I don't believe it's a gateway drug and I definitely don't believe that the drug can ruin one's life...

Good for you! Gold stars! Though i question why you need to validate this thought by posting it on the Internets! Almost as if your trying to justify something to yourself!

Any stimulant can be used responsibly and abused horribly. Fuck there have been people who are far far far more successful and happy then you will ever be that have used heroin and crack for large portions of there lives and lived to see there grand kids.
So yeah, give yourself an applause, you can manage a very minor substance. Now ask yourself, "Why do i need to validate this virtue on the internet to random strangers?"
