That is pretty cool and all, but with the features such as the voice recording + morphine for last words(which are presented as major selling points), that seems to scream "I'm not very confident in this" bullet & shrapnel proof it may be.

Looks like something out of Crysis. Something that you wear...that protects you...against..stuff.

cool but obviously doesn;t cover all of body and "bullet proof" is pretty vague. I'm sure high caliper rounds would mince him.

but sure soon soldier's will be wearing armour again but I doubt it will be from some block's garage.

but even when they get this armour. others will just have to invest in say nanotechnology materials and make stronger bullets which penetrate the current tech.

Interesting, and for some forces, kitting a soldier out in $150000+ armor isn't too much of a stretch.

There would need to be some changes though, like an increase in vision, and a general streamlining and upgrading of the suit.

50 lbs could be prohibitive for general infantry without an exoskeleton of some sort (50 lbs all around the body+90 lbs packs=Some soldiers doubling their weight), but special forces and counterterrorist units storming enclosed spaces could find that to be a huge advantage.

Trojan Ballistic Suit of Armor

In early 2007, Hurtubise made public his new protective suit which was designed to be worn by soldiers. Calling it the "Trojan", Hurtubise describes it as the "first ballistic, full exoskeleton body suit of armour." Weighing in at 40 lbs, he claims that the suit can withstand bullets from high powered weapons (including an elephant gun). Hurtubise claims that he has been unable to test the suit against live ammunition because no one is willing to shoot him in it. It also features a knife holster and air conditioned helmet.
Yeah, old. Also, looks fugly as sin.
I agree with the age part. I read something about this in the May 2007 issue of PopSci, to coincide with Iron Man's film release.

But if this is what the private sector has, I shan't imagine what my military is doing with the billions of dollars in budget.

I'm looking at you, DARPA.
I would love to see what the military has. I read somewhere there is a prototype exoskeleton that increases the users strength and allows a soldier to carry far more weight than a regular soldier. Combine there two and it's awesome.

Yea, they said they had to tell the test subjects to take it slow, because things would feel so light :p

I think it said one test subject did one hundred arm reps with a fifty pound weight, and he wasn't even tired.

But that would be epic. Mechs are just around the corner, comrade.

*cue lightning backdrop* BAHAHAHAAAHAHA!

Cool but not really much different from the Land warrior project
Yea it is. I was under the impression Landwarrior placed a camera in one your gun, and helmet and allowed you to hear and see everything in your squad. So if a buddy was 20 feet away gettin 'naded you could go provide support, and know where the enemy is.

Hows that like a power suit?

OT:Thats alot of bad-assery right there. Id buy one just to shop at wal-mart with

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't oppose my country taking over the world, if all of our troops wore suits like these.

I don't know what weapons he used against his suit, but for $2000's worth of material and gadgets,I'm very sceptical it can hold out it combat.

Being heat resistant enough to last 10 minutes under a blowtorch is one thing, but protecting the user against small arms fire is is a whole other, more complicated business.
Not forgetting it has to endure harsh living conditions.
If my swiss army knife tends to get stuck when sand gets in it,well,I'm going to let you guess what can happen to the suit.

Then again,if he tested against everything successfully,I will gladly bow down to him.

Always going to happen. As Guns get better at killing, armor gets better at protecting. But since currently most armies are underfunded, I'm fairly sure this won't become standard issue. That or someone will make a cheaper version
