ok, one of the most hated things about games nowadays seems to be power armored marines but Ive been trying to think of how many games even have them aside from halo or gears, so I submit the question to you the viewers, how many games feature burly marines in power armor aside from gears, halo and rts games dont count.

I don't know if its so much the powered armored space marines as it is the overdone characterizations that they use.
PS
Crysis.

A super powered space marine a la Warhammer 40K is fine. The grunting one line quoting badass in a suit, however, is getting really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY old.

Why?
because in rts games they are either cannon fodder IE starcraft or its dawn of war and thoes are based directly on one of the original sources of the idea

Actually, you play an engineer in Dead Space. All the soldiers are dead by that point. Although I will add Dawn of War 1 and 2, Quake, Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

And that makes them somehow less part of this thread? They're still power armor-wearing space marines.

thoes dont really have powered armor in them, at most its just body armor, you get your powers from other things, well maybe not in the conduit but from the box art you sure dont look like the "usual" buff military power armored marine

I'm not talking in particular about the super armor suit, but rather about the attitude. And yeah, in the Conduit they stick your rear end into a suit of armor pretty quick. I will give you the fact that it's not as bulky as Gears of War and Halo's power armor, however, so if that's the criteria, those wouldn't quite fit.

Kill zone 1 and 2

Edit: and its a lot more because of culture in genral a lot of comic books and novels did it first before it caught on in videogames.

That doesn't change the fact that you can get your armor to become more badass as you go along, culminating with you actually getting a Militart suit once you finish the game.
Im going to say dead space doesnt really count since your not a solder, your an engineer who happens to have a suit ment to withstand space debre (whatever, too lazy to spell right), one of the key things Im looking for is not armor just acting as armor since giving the player a reason why they can take a hit isnt a bad thing, its a combination of attitude and some power granted by armor.... which I suppose kind of limits gears since while its definatly got the attitude you arnt exactly lifting up over turned trucks

Warhammer 40k did an FPS for the PS2 some years back too. That had power armoured space marines.

40 did several fps games but in the ps2 one you played a tau, not a human, tho you did have to fight space marines in it and from what I hear they were huge and hard to kill
