I was inspired to write this thread when, a few minutes ago, my house's power flickered off. Of course, this happens right as I'm in the middle of typing a very lengthy and detailed Facebook note... and oh, of course it screws up my Warhammer Beta Client download manager.

As gamers, our livelihood depends on a functioning TV or computer. When your power goes out, even for a second, it can be catastrophic. And it always, always happens when you haven't saved in like three hours.

So, share with us your most tragic brown-out stories.

I think a power outage caused my PS2 memory card to get fried a couple years ago. Had quite a few saves on it, including a 70+ hour Dragon Quest VIII save :( Lost all those saves and had to shell out $25 for a new card.

Ha, I just realized your avatar is a Dragon Quest monster, that's kinda weird...

My dad once tripped the circuit breaker for Earth Hour...10 minutes into the greatest Battlefield 2142 match of my life.

The kicker is he wasn't being energy conscious, he was just trying to troll my family :)

Power outs never really happen where I live. We get a few but they're pretty rare, the've only been 3 since I moved where I live as of now.

oh and for one I was playing a Ps2 over at a friends house and it was set on fire, the scary part is that it survived.

Ever been through a hurricane?
I have no problem with weeks without power seeing as I don't have to rely sole on video games for entertainment but my fanboy friends sure suffer.

Many a time.

Especially after Frances, coming home to no power for awhile was awesome. D:

But now, on topic: Didn't really happen to me, but to my brother. He was playing Fable and didn't save for like 2 hours and then all of a sudden the power went out. Needless to say he was mad.

I started to save a game once, and turned the system off immediately after hitting the "ok" button to confirm the save..

that's worse then any power up, because then you have to frantically check your memory card to see how hard you need to kidney punch yourself.

Well, I can name one.

You must know KotOR2 mission when you storm/protect the planet's princess or something? Yeah, I was just in the final cut scene, I was THIS close on killing the princess and shoving her head on a pole when *click* power out. I cried and screamed at that point.

Oh, and last week, my router was fried because the power flicked off and went way too up for a moment. And they didn't let us replace it for the last day to do that was three days ago... That. Sucked. Arse.

Then there was the time with Fable, I had just finished a difficult quest, when click, my comp froze. It does it all the effing time! IT'S ANNOYING. God, I think I hit it a few times too much.

Well, a recent black-out (an oddly long one) led me to my trusty old brick of a gameboy, and then onto the classic super mario land
And I LOVED it
Not to mention the nostalgia in whipping out the old 'brick'
So really, the blackout made things 'yay happy times' on my behalf

In my old apartment a squirrel botched a jump and incinerated itself across both power take-down lines to my building. The resulting HUGE power spike fried my old 8088 computer... everything else was alright, I guess because it wasn't turned on at the time or was a big, clunky appliance. (It did take a while to get power back, though.)

I have more surge protectors now.

When theres a blackout I go outside =P
The sun buuuuurns me. Anyone here from NY? Remember the 2001 blackout? Ahhh, good times. During that, and, yeah, this may seem a little cheesy, me and a couple other dudes from my neighborhood made a bonfire and roasted marshmallows and told stories. Seriously! Needless to say, when I moved, I was subject to intermitent power failures do to the faulty wiring in my house. I bought a small generator that can run my house for about ten hours. Fortunately, all I need it to plug the 360/computer into it.
