Hello im a high school senior thinking about going into premed at either university of kentucky or UTK next fall. My question is what i should major in? I was thinking psychology since, if i get into med school, i plan to be a psychiatrist. Will this major help or hurt me? Or would a bio or chem major be better suited for me?

Most med students are bio majors, but it isn't a requirement. I've heard the MCAT deals mainly with biology, chemistry, physics, and some other stuff but I'm not so sure about psychology. You should at least minor in bio or chem if you want to major in psychology. Meh, but what do I know, you have college advisers for a reason.

Typically, what you get is what's known as a "concentration". That's what I'm doing right now. I basically take a bunch of courses related to a biology major, but omit some and take certain others, to look more relevant on a medical school application. If you plan on going to be a psychiatrist, get set up for a pre-med concentration and talk to your advisor about psychiatry. In fact, my school has a psychology major, so maybe double major in bio and psychology. I don't know. Never had to deal with that.
