Oh, there was a thread already? Okay, consider mine in Off-Topic redundant then. I'll just copypaste what I said there:

Well this came sooner than I expected (that's what she said).

I don't know what to make of this on the basis of this trailer alone. Obviously it's a teaser, but what's shown here seems to have next to nothing to do with the comics. I hope this is just a teaser for the crowd that doesn't know the comics, and not representative what the show is actually like. I adore Preacher to death, and am hoping so hard for this to succeed as an adaptation. I'm trying to hold my judgement until we get more footage. And then I'll hold it some more, because as the recent Joker photo thread shows, the internet judgement culture is a fucking cancer.

My guess is that they're withholding that for now to rope in people not familiar with the comic. Preacher's plot is not an easy sell as it is, and when doing a big TV show the risk of alienation increases exponentially if you just wheel out all the crazy stuff right out the gate. And if you pause during those quick flashes towards the end of the trailer, you'll see Cassidy sitting on a porch in shadow, looking at his left hand that is indeed ablaze.

But the subject of Tulip's ethnicity is something I have to be critical about. Her being "white trash" is such a vital part of the character that unless they've completely rewritten her (which I wouldn't necessarily object to), she's not going to make much sense as a character. Her background, her almost macho attitude and her hatred of guns as well as being very proficient with them among other things all stem from her coming from a redneck family.

Wow. So they're actually going to do it?

I have a REALLY hard time believing this will wind up being as dark and violent as the comic it's based on, but that doesn't mean it can't still be somewhat entertaining.

I'm really curious to see which actors they get to play the Saint of Killers and Jody (assuming they're in this). Jody especially may be one of my all time favorite villains.

Also minor point, but shave down Jesse's beard some. In the comics he basically only had a 5' o clock shadow.
HOOOOONK! WROOOOOOONG!!!! HE HAD A FULL BEARD AFTER HE WAS FOUND IN THE DESERT BY JOHNNY LEE WOMBAT!!!!! GIT OUT YA NOOBFAG #GETREKT #MOUNTAINDEWANDDORITOS!!!!

Ahem.

One fantasy cast actually had Danny Trejo as the Saint of Killers, which I'd definitely be on board with. They could easily rewrite his backstory to him having been a bloodthirsty bandit instead of a soldier (or something like that), and don't tell me you wouldn't want to see Machete growl his way through the series looking something like this:

I feel that having Cassidy's powers be blink-and-you-miss-it isn't a great move, in regards to the trailer. What you want is for your average Joe and Joette to see the trailer and know 'huh, supernatural', not 'kinda shit preacher and his Irish buddy'. It's not that America can't handle the crazy, I mean The Walking Dead and Supernatural are popular enough, so it shouldn't have been too big a leap to assume it'd be there. Also, we don't see his and Tulips relationship at all, which was a big part of the story.

I agree her being White Trash was integral to the story. A lot of my apathy to the change is rooted to the more obvious supernatural elements not being front and center, with her being played by Ruth Negga is small potatoes next to it. I don't mind so much if her ethnicity changing, as long as the contexts for her macho attitude and gun issues are made relevant to her being a black woman in America (I'll be shocked if they don't try and address the race issues).

For the meantime, I'm cautiously optimistic it won't be wank. Hopefully the team behind it know what they're doing.

Alright, not gonna lie, that looks pretty hype.
Anyway.
I'm gonna give this a fair shake, on no other grounds than I'm simply burned out by how not-the-comic this is looking.
Tulip is black, Jesse's an ex-black-ops specialist, I can see Cassidy's eyes and he's a flight attendant for some reason, it would just take too much energy to be upset at this point.
But you know, I liked the Constantine movie because despite visually hitting nothing from the Hellblazer books, I thought the writing for John and the way Keanu played him was actually pretty spot on. Granted I haven't read a ton of Hellblazer so maybe I'm wrong but as it stood, not bad.
So as long as they get the characters relatively right, I think I can overlook the rest.

I was expecting an Irish American accent till I realised who it was that was playing the character. And then the accent came out Cork, which...while ridiculous in itself...is not inaccurate.
