I like to think im pretty nifty at games, well not terrible anyways.

But I have a weakness QTE's, I hate them or they hate me and I shall tell you why.

My friend showed me a little game called Heavy Rain, im not a big fan of plittering about a house for ages, but things started to pick up when the murderer came back from whatever murderers do when they arnt you know murdering, anyones he spots me and hes not a happy chap about the whole thing so he does chases me down with a knife. I manage to escape and get to the motorbike outside, now heavy rain is pretty much a QTE so to start the bike and escape you have to hammer the "O" button, now this is where my problem is...no matter how hard I try my body is incapable of such a thing, i dont know why i just can't which my mate found awfully funny.

Recently I got God of war III this time i struggled at doin any of the QTEs where you had to rotate the stick in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction, i dont know what i was doing wrong i wasnt to slow because i do what i think it was you had to do and the button prompt is still up so its not a too slow thing and im doing it the way it tells me because im not a dunce it actually got to the point where im propperly infuriated about it (which im not known for) ive completed the game ( epic btw, if you have a ps3 get it if you dont find someone who does ) but i only managed through sheeer flook i even changed the difficulty to easy to see if it was more forgiving but turns out the QTEs are the same.

anyways if your still reading this then kudos to you i do realise my spelling/grammar is just terrible so well done.

just wanting to know is it just me that has these problems or is there more people incapable of hammering Os or As

especially people with GOW3 as its actually starting to make me think its some sort of glitch?

You aren't the only one. I've never been good at those I can never get my finger to move quite fast enough to do them reliably.

I'm not super great at them. I tend to panic a little when a button symbol comes up on the screen unexpectedly, and my mind is like "X! X! push the X!"

These extra few seconds screw me over often enough that I have to try again. It does tend to get better if the game is all FTEs. Then I am expecting it.

I'm pretty good at QTE's most of the time. The times where i don't get them done is when i'm fully paying attetntion to the game and they spring at me so quickly i'd have to react at the speed of light to get it.

I learned to mash the fucking hell out of the circle button, thanks to Metal Gear Solid's torture chamber. I tried forever and a day to rescue Meryl, until finally I beat it! Then I had to do the damn thing again...THEN once more, to finally escape from the prison cell.

I'm now learning to pull my trigger finger faster, just so I can hear the MW2 geeks ***** and complain that I have a modded controller since a .50cal should not fire at the same rate as the SCAR-H.

To me there's nothing really wrong with them. The only bad thing is thinking it's a cutscene, so you step out for a smoke and come back to a game over. I guess they're more abundant nowadays though, which makes people hate them.

I'm playing Indigo Prophecy right now, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Don't play it.

The only ones that I don't like are the button mash ones.
I cannot, for whatever reason, mash a button to save my life.
I actually had to return PoP because this one boss was screwing me over since it required you to mash x to kill it

I got up and QUIT PoP (the new one) because of the F'n warrior. "hammer X to win" believe me, I can hammer that x button into a fine paste but is that good for the game? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My PoP is unwinnable, and it's a shame since I liked it too

Make a "claw" or a "hook" with your index finger, put a thumb on finger joint closest to the nail. Push your thumb against your finger and keep index finger stiff.

Thats the professional world class technique !

I grew up playing Mario Party games, Pokemon Stadium minigames, and a lot of fighters (Virtua Fighter, for one) so my button-mashing skills are, I'll admit, bombtastic, no matter the finger. I never had any trouble with the ones in Heavy Rain- the only things I missed in that game really were sudden buttons that had me confused since I'm not so adept with a PS3 controller.

I'm ok at them, it's just my reflexes get in the way. I've played plenty of twitch-shooters, so when I realize it's a QTE I tense up, then immediately press the nearest button when prompted. Not the best strategy mind you.

I have absolutely no problems with QTE. A lot of RE/GoW/HR training made me quite good in the art of 'press x not to die/get stabbed/whatever' and in fact, I really like them. Say what you will of them, but for me, they are unleashing additional amount of adrenaline during the usually calmer bits (cutscenes), and that's always a plus in my books.

The only QTE which really annoyed me was:

Agreed. this QTH (Quick Time Hammering) was unbelievably hard even for me, and I almost ate my keyboard thanks to this prick. I had an epic satisfaction when I finally beat him though.

Yeah I have not a lot of trouble with QTEs. The clockwise/anticlockwise things can be a little tricky but mashing the buttons and hitting them at the right time isnt too hard. I got my mashing training from boosting GFs in Final Fantasy 8.

I have no problem with QTE's. I find some of them to be quite fun. Yes, some are annoying but those are usually the ones that aren't to good.
