Meh. I know a lot of gamers. They look pretty normal. A few of them are pretty hot.

Pretty much the same demographic breakdown I find in any other random cross section of society.

It all depends on how healthy your gaming habits are. If you're the type who lives and breathes for an MMO and who can't reason outside of raid instances and guild meetups, you might be up for some problems down the road, especially psychologically and emotionally. Not to mention that sitting on your ass all day long and shoving empty calories down your gullet won't do your body any good.

If, on the other hand, you're a gamer who manages to balance it out with something else of an equally fulfilling nature (like a job that makes you feel appreciated, or another hobby outside of the gaming circuit - and ideally both), you're probably more likely to be able to work up the energy to take care of yourself.

If you're sensible about what you do, odds are you'll look more appealing to most people than someone who adheres to the "El Gordo Granudo" stereotype or who regularly channels the Comic Book Guy.

Personally, I find that a short walk each day works wonders. Give me twenty minutes of fresh air per day, and I'll work up enough enthusiasm for my job, my thesis, my assignments *and* my games.

As to whether or not that makes you pretty, I'd say that's a moot point. Before obsessing over your appearance, you're better off making sure that you're on the right mental and emotional track.

What's with the generally accepted idea that only "unattractive" people play videogames? I mean sure, the ones you see most often in the media aren't exactly in the best of shape, and those that are play things like CoD exclusively, but come on.

Help a wee sociopath out. What's up with this.

AKA I went my entire middle to high school (After moving to another state, thereby leaving my gamer buddies behind) life never being able to play games with others because no one believed I played videogames at all, so I fell into the great deep void that are MMORPGs. And now I cry myself to sleep at night.
Yeah, no offense, but that's a very juvenile attitude. Pretty people played them back in the 70s, the 80s, and so on. Kids will think a person is their looks and act or judge people on that alone, but that's how kids think (and some shallow adults, but that's a big rarity in most circles too).

Yeah, the stereotype is starting to wain as times goes on. As Marter said, everyone plays video games now to a certain extent. Back when it was just for "nerds" there were plenty of attractive gamers out there.
Of course. The only issue back then was that some people were almost ashamed to tell people that they played video games or that they even liked them. In this new day and age, where people are more or less starting to see that games are much more than a child's play thing, people are more open to their own interests and having the confidence to defend and enjoy their past times.

I love how the OP acts like they're anti-stereotype by acting shocked that gamers are looked at as unattractive while lumping all CoD players into the group of being all unattractive.

Bravo.
Mayhaps you should check that first post again, bearing in mind my use of commas.
And someone else said I'm dead wrong?
How exactly could I be dead wrong about my personal experience with this negative stereotype that lead me to spend tens of thousands on MMOs over the past few years?

I'm not the one promoting this stereotype, I'm opening a discussion into why exactly the American population was under such a silly impression, and a lot of good points are made. I specified I'm a sociopath, so things like shame and guilt aren't really my bag. I still don't understand exactly why anyone would hide the fact they played games based on their social life or appearance, but this thread is helping a bit.

To shed a bit more light on the subject in lieu of the aforementioned post;
I'm 21, I moved from New York to Indiana. This covers years between 2006 and 2012.
Also, this;

And this is how I looked Freshman year;

I've actually found other gamers to be either surprised by how handsome I am (if we met online first) or distrusting that I'm a "real" gamer (if we met in person first). Non-gamers tend just just shrug and not care that I enjoy Borderlands and pokemon. Well, maybe not pokemon, that still gets a lot of "but you're not 7..." comments, but that has nothing to do with attractiveness.

Its a stereotype, it applies to a lot of things.

"Oh hey, a guy who is in good shape because he enjoys regular exercise, he must be a dick."

and I'm with Malty Milk Whistle, I'd do me.

Ofcourse gamers can be pretty.

They generally don't have nice asses though =(
I object. Mine is pretty darn nice. Whatever "you could bounce a quarter off of it" means, which I assume is good. Also the grabbing.

Congratulations on dat ass! :D

You give me cause to doubt.
Gamers can't look good, it's impossible.
All those empty calories, the 6+ hours of sitting on your duff a day, surely you jest.
You're saying you're so pretty nobody ever believed you played video games? And that's the reason you have no more gamer buddies?
That doesn't even make sense.
Be honest, did you just make this thread to post pictures of yourself?

Several friends of mine are huge gamers, and they are quite the ladies men. I'm still the sexiest of the bunch, however.

I'm so prettier than you...

But you aren't half bad, so don't ever let anyone call you ugly.

I'm attractive. And I keep my gaming no secret. No one is surprised, because gaming is becoming ubiquitous, and a certain reasonable level of "nerdy" is a sort of attractive quality now.

I think this will become a non-issue with time.

To reiterate, this thread discusses events in the years between 2006 and 2010. You know, when I was in school? I'm out of school now, so I have no trouble finding people to game with.

I realized that while I was reading this thread...

I'm a very handsome person! (JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST Kidding! :D)

Anyone who plays games is a gamer, and everyone looks different

What one considers pretty is subjective, so who cares?

Enjoy the dang vidya games! :D
You're my hero now... And a delicious food item that may or may not impart supernatural powers.

I'm very conflicted right now...

Please excuse the strange contrast and surreal looking background, they are a result of a pretty old cameraphone.

This thread mostly feels like a strange way to show off those same photos for funsies.

In general I've known of attractive and socially active people who still occasionally have weekends in playing games. I don't feel like it really dictates much about you anymore. I do however fairly fit the stereotype of the introverted paranoid shut in.

Pretty/attractive/beautiful/effeminate, all are different things which different people define differently.

No offense TC, but for me you just fit the effeminate category, though to be fair I've never found another dude pretty, so you may very well be that to those who do find dudes pretty. As for believing you play "real games" or stuff besides angry birds or whatever, sure I would, I wouldn't have a reason to doubt you. :p

As for myself, I consider myself "average" and that's it, it is left upon others to decide for themselves how true that is.

If anything, people assume I'm in a band due to my look...which although false I don't mind. :p
