Pride

I was wondering what my fellow Escapist's opinion on Pride is; whether it's a vice or a virtue. A lot of people consider it to be a virtue, but it is also one of the 7 deadly sins.

Please, keep this civilized. Don't flame anyone for what they say: it is simply their opinion.

The reason why Pride is the greatest of the 7 deadly sins is because when pride is out of control, it is that you are idolizing yourself instead of worshiping God, displacing Him for a narcissistic love of self.

There are parts of pride that aren't so bad. Having pride in your work is not a bad thing, but it is when it is out of hand it becomes a deadly sin.

Pride is the obsessive belief that ones self is superior to others.

Confidence, on the other hand, is the belief that you are awesome at something.

It's a fine line, but an important one. Confidence is great, Pride is a vice.

Depends on what you mean by pride. Maintaining your character by refusing to do things you feel are wrong is a virtue, but the deadly sin pride is more along the lines of megalomania, i.e. the desire for power and control. That's a vice.

Virtue, I'd rather starve to death than live by asking a friend for cash.

And I'd rather get my ass kicked for not backing down than running way.

I think that we all need some pride, but just dont go overboard with it

I like to be proud about things. I can be the best of my friends in Brawl, but if I'm civil and polite during each match, there isn't anything wrong with that.

If it wasn't for some pride, then my low self esteem would wreck havoc on my every waking moment.
