The BBC News website has a video [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-20920848] of them removing the tape from the cat. It doesn't look too much in distress, but they are holding it very tightly.Volan said:I don't know whether to be more amused at such an elaborate and ingenious way to escape prison, or horrified at the thought of getting the tape off the cat. I'm a wuss with bandages, so I couldn't even imagine.
Still, points for the imagination.

OT: Just imagine if they trained a slightly LARGER version of a cat to do this. I believe in South America, they have those kinda creatures. I can see the headlines now:
TIGER HELPS CRIMINALS ESCAPE PRISON. GUARDS SCARED ABSOLUTELY SHITLESS
My thoughts exactly. I saw the headline and chuckled at the sheer level of evil genius that takes, and then I thought about the poor cat. Just casually wondering around, and then BAM. Someone has stuck a bunch of random crap to it and dumped it over a wall. Beyond that is just a tad uncomfortable to think about.Volan said:I don't know whether to be more amused at such an elaborate and ingenious way to escape prison, or horrified at the thought of getting the tape off the cat.

The only downside is, they'll betray you for a tin of tuna and a fluffy pillow.Redlin5 said:Cats make for great agents. When they fail, they'll never surrender your secrets. Ever.
"And eventual destruction because no one will claim it."Mike Kayatta said:While there is zero scientific evidence ruling out the cat itself as the mastermind behind Operation Tape Saw, the prison guards saw fit to pamper it anyway, quickly sending it to an animal disease center for medical treatment.

Because, let's face it, what cat would rescue its owner out of the goodness of its heart?

I'm surprised this hasn't occurred to more people. It was the first thing I thought of: Those guards saved that cat from getting its head smashed into concrete, having its fur and skin cut or ripped out, and then left to die.Roander said:I think a lot of people reading this are assuming the prisoner would keep the cat alive because they don't want to think about the other possibility. I'm glad the guards caught it when they did.
You'd know better than me.Raggedstar said:Well, give them credit for the idea at least. Surprised the guy even got the tape on the cat in the first place 0-0
Same picture as here? It's honestly not that bad. Mind you not IDEAL, but not that bad for people who (most likely) don't know how to restrain cats. I've seen worse. Cat isn't being strangled, legs are being restrained, and there is another person. Odds are they held the cat like that temporarily to show the body. I'm a vet tech and sometimes people think some safe and commonly used techniques and devices are cruel. It's not unusual to grab the legs (he's a bit too low and perhaps could give more support), scruff, or cup the head.Tiger Sora said:It bothered me when I saw this on reddit the way he was holding the cat. Wow. You went there. I knew it would be somewhere. That poor kitty. Sad thing is that others will probably try similar. Though from talking to a corrections officer I know, criminals do pretty ingenious things in prison.Mike Kayatta said:Currently, all 263 prisoners of Arapiraca are considered suspects in the case, though progress toward nabbing the purrpetrator has been slow. "It's tough to find out who's responsible for the action," explained a prison spokesperson soon after detaining the fluffy smuggler, "as the cat doesn't speak."
How cute is that! I can see the Daily Mail now: Cat criminals in overcrowded cardboard prisons need deporting. Right now.TrilbyWill said:Yeah.LordJedi86 said:Or a nice box. Cats love a nice box.
But what if the cat has an accomplice?
That could cause some
No, the cat IS the bag. When did Brazil become Soviet Russia...TheSYLOH said:Guess the cat's out of the bag...
