I purchased myself a 20 Gb hard drive for my xbox 360. my current one is a 12 Gb one that i got in '06 when i purchased the 360. my problem is that i want to transfer all my saves, my account, and all my content onto the new hard drive. i thought i had this figured out when i got a transfer cable. problem is, the software is not recognizing my 12 gig one when i plug it into the computer (i got a knockoff brand on ebay and you use your computer to do the transfer). now the only solution that i see is to shell out 20 dollars for one from microsoft, but i do not know if that will work. what are your suggestions?

You do not use your computer. You use the Xbox.

There is a special Xbox 360 HDD data transfer cable for this very purpose. The software for the transfer should be pre-programmed into the 360, though if you buy the transfer cable new, it should come with a DVD for that purpose anyway.

I've done this before, and it does work.

Re-reading the post, it looks like you got a knockoff of the 360's transfer cable. I would avoid getting knockoffs of Xbox accessories in the future. Or any game system for that matter. They never seem to work as well.

You bought a knockoff product. That's always the worst thing to do..sure they might be cheaper but that's because they usually are made from cheap materials.
