So, having played Mass Effect 2 and listening to almost every major character in the game talking about Shepard's exploits with Geth on the Citadel, etc. etc. i decided to install Mass Effect 1 again.

But every time i try and load it up (the only thing i've done is reinstall it after a simple and quick unistall due to almost filling up my hard drive),and when i get past the obligitory showing of maker names, my computer simply just turns off, and gives me a blue screen of writing telling me something f**ked up and giving almost no indeterminable cause. other than:

My hard drive is full (it has 55.3Gb of storage left)
Theres a problem with BIOS (not a clue)

So to put it simply:
Why the hell can't it work?

Have you tried uninstalling it and installing it again? Works wonders sometimes, sicne your computer might of had a glitch while installing it, causing part of it to corrupt.

Hope you get more help if this doesn't work.

Could you get the error message written down or see if windows spews out one of those "system recovery after critical error" things?

Check the developer's forums to see if it's a common probelm.

Other than that try reinstalling/patching the game.

In your BIOS, you may be able to change an option so the computer doesn't immediately restart on errors. This will mean the computer stops at the bluescreen, so you can actually read what happens wrong.

A Google search on ha20x2k.sys suggests that you disable OpenAL, I assume under your control panel audio options. Also might be under the game's audio options.

I'm guessing you have a Creative X-FI XtremeGamer or something similar?
checking the conrtrol panels 'Sound and Audio Devices Properties', it comes under:

SB X-Fi Audio [BCEO]
