A couple of weeks ago I decided to purchase a 1600 Microsoft points card for my Xbox. When I tried to redeem it, it would come up with this message:
"Unable to retrieve info from Xbox Live. Please try again later"
Then it would give me a source code. I have been trying to redeem this code for the past 2 weeks but still no dice. My Xbox Live connection is fine as far as I can tell and I redeemed pre-paid cards before with no difficulty. I am using an older Xbox (i.e. not the slim Version) and I have a Gold membership.

There is no information about this on the Xbox support page. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance!

Apparently some of the older xboxes don't work with the latest software updates, so that might be the problem. Calling microsoft is probably the best idea

Call or email their support department?
that is what its there for. I doubt anyone here will be better than that.
I emailed them already. All they told me to do was wait awhile and it should work. That was about five days ago :/.

What do you mean? My Xbox works fine at the moment. This is the only problem thus far. I bought it back in '09 if it helps.

Did you get a code on your receipt? Last time I bought points at Gamestop, the person selling them told me that some of the codes are fake, while the real one is on the receipt. Meant to prevent some codes from being stolen, I guess. If you find a code on your receipt, there's no harm in trying, right?

Nope :(. I just checked the receipt. No code :(.

Reading that it apparently affects the ability to read game discs, but if it's something related they may send you a new xbox. Seems like it might be a problem with the card you bought though.

It could be. I'll check it out and come back to this thread later.

Have you tried redeeming the code on the Xbox.com website?

If you sign in to your Gamertag on Xbox.com you should be able to redeem the code and add the points to your account, but even if it doesn't work it will help you narrow down the source of the problem.

If the problem is with your console's connection to X-Box Live, but the code is valid, then it should work.

If the code is invalid then you'll get the appropriate "invalid code" message returned and you'll know where that the problem lies with the points card, (chances are it wasn't activated by the store when you purchased it).

However, if there is a problem with your console's connection to Live and the code is invalid, you won't know that the code is invalid when trying to enter it on your console because of the connection problem, so try it on the website to narrow down the possibilities.

EDIT: I see from your profile that you're in Malta, which as far as I know, doesn't officially have X-Box Live, or at least doesn't support X-Box Live.

Perhaps it's something to do with your IP address and the fact that you're trying to redeem the codes from a unsupported country.
Regardless of where you say your profile is from and what nationality account you have, your actual geo-location could be the cause of the problem, so your best bet is trying to redeem the code and spend the points on the X-Box Live Marketplace website, and hopefully your download queue will still function even if you can't connect to the Marketplace from your console.

I tried earlier to redeem the code on the Xbox website and it gave me this message:
"An error occurred with your transaction. Please try again later."

And you're right, Malta is an unsupported country. I counter this by saying I'm from London and gave them a fake postcode. Everything worked fine until now. Everything else works, this seems to be the only problem.
