Problem with starting up TF2

Hey Escapists,

Anyways I am by no means anywhere near knowledgeable with PC gaming so when I run into a problem like this it leaves me confuzzled. When I go to start up TF2 it goes through the opening credits for Valve and shows the RED/BLU/WAR background to the main menu with 'loading...' in the corner then after a bit the screen just goes black and the only way out is to CTRL ALT DEL out of it.

I've tried deleting the local content and reinstalling it but nothing works. Any idea of what's wrong/how to fix?

It's the issue that's new. I've played TF2 on my laptop before with no issues unless it's a big server and I know my specs meet the requirement (although my graphics card just barely).

Ok, I'm fairly certain there's some fancy words you have to type in to it but I can't for the life of me remember what they were. I'll try and look for it.

Wait, I just remembered a VERY common issue with all HL2.exe based games. Might be or might not be, but could be worth a shot.

It's from the movie End of Evangelion during the Asuka v Eva Series fight scene. If you're going to get into it though, I suggest watching the anime first, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and then the movie; It'll make more sense that way. It's a moderately confusing anime though and gets really deep into 'WTF' territory near the end but it's my favorite anime.

Ok, I think what you're going to want to do is right click on TF2, go to Properties, then to Set Launch Options, then type '-32bit' into the box. I think that may help but I'm not completely sure.
