Problem with Steam

Alright, I'm gonna try to keep this a brief as possible, though I probably won't.

Just last night, I had to do a complete re-installation of windows 7 on my gaming desktop because my second RAID hard drive failed. Now I'm using a single, regular hard drive, and I re-installed everything I had before, same programs, same anti-virus, everything. Now here's my problem. Before my re-installation, everything was working fine. Now Steam has decided to start up, try to connect to my steam account, and then suddenly disappear. I mean disappear as in the process shuts off. I was thinking it was the anti-virus that might be blocking it (microsoft security essentials), but I was using that before with no problems and this is the first time any of this is happening. I've tried googling an answer, I've tried rebooting, I've tried re-installing steam, I've tried a whole bunch of crap. One thing that can be noted, however, is that I can re-install steam and it will run fine right afterwards, but as soon as I exit to transfer all my game files over, I start to get this "process randomly stops" problem.

Any suggestions?

For whatever reason maybe it doesn't like the GCFs you're trying to drag and drop from the old version to the new installation. Try downloading them fresh.
