Problems with a Human/Alien society.

Cultural friction. Alien and human society has a completely different cultures. We kill each other over which god we believe in what do you think happens when an alien with a completely different comes around. Mass effect has a thin clock for racism for a reason, cultural friction would exist and it does cause racism and hate.

Aside from that, if the aliens aren't humanoid carbon based oxygen breathers they may need special facilities to live and survive and that may cause problems and isolate the two of us.

The religious Humans and Aliens may do that but what about the atheist ones? Maybe we will all come together and bugger of to another planet to live in peace. Also if hey did breath a different type of air then they could wear tanks on their backs like grunts from halo and they would need to visit a special station to top up on their air. Humans would need to do the same on alien planets. Lets not forget that maybe 200 years in the we could surgically altar ourselves to breath both types of air.

Atheists can be as dickish as any of the religious, or even more (*cough* communists). Don't bet on the "glorious enlightened technologically advanced aliens", they'll cook up an excuse to kill us off and use Earth's resources up in short order, regardless of their professed worldview.

I know one example makes for poor statistics, but if the only sapient species we know is any indication, the central driving force for the aliens will be greed. Everything else is just making up excuses.

One thing that could stop them from wiping us out would be biological differences making plans for a planet-scale invasion too costly (as if it wasn't unimaginably costly already). Better then to establish trade relations, then win our resources over politically.

In 200 years I'm fairly certain we will have progressed beyond the limitations of a religious-based society and hence be ready to cope with another technological species.

Well, obviously since communication between the races would likely be impossible due to individual sentience (humans) and hive minds (aliens), we would inevitably go to war with one another simply because we can't understand each other but can understand we are in competition with one another for resources... I'll grab my power armor.

"Human history" becomes "universal history". The same way local history became global history. You'd have the same issues you've ever had when cultures come together. Some differences would be dismissed, others would be ironed out sooner or later. Others still would simply disappear in the merging.

Hundreds of years ago I don't doubt other people have asked "what will those crazy negroes do to our society!". Turns out we're just fine. In fact, our culture is richer for including them. Turns out differences are a good thing, and we just adapt to them. Same would happen to aliens I presume.

Atheists on earth are a one digit precentage, they're very small.
There's a small chance that there are no atheists in the side of the aliens, but if they are all atheists then we're screwed becasu the majority here worships a dead man and his omnipotent all knowing father.

I can't see any good reason to invade a planet to take it's resources. since astroids and stuff most likely have all the resources they'll need, and they don't need to hassle with breaking atmo and killing the things that live there. and then they must clear the area of the now dead things.

I think our largest problem would be a "District 9" type scenario, because lets face it, racism is a way of ensuring a group of similar characteristics is favored, in biological terms Id say its a unavoidable factor in the human race. (I am not saying it is right though so please don't ban)

maybe we could find a planet that supported life, that didn't have life with our level of intelligence on it. and it could be like a neutral zone for both species to visit?
as I'm writing this i can come up with several ways that would go horribly wrong though.
mutual respect is needed for a interracial relationship to work.

Honestly I don't see the racism thing happening unless it ends up something like District 9 where the aliens are effectively trapped on Earth and are completely subject to human rule.

Now if it's a mutual immigration of aliens to Earth and humans to the alien world, then I doubt that there will be any real racism. The human governments probably wouldn't tolerate racism and I doubt the aliens would react any differently. There might be some tensions at first, but I think people are reasonable enough to avoid causing trouble, especially when you have the risk of pissing off an alien empire hanging over your head.

I think the language barrier would be easy to over come. I mean so far we have translated dead languages of people long dead so I think we could easily translate the language of a living species with their help. If they decide they like us.

Look at history look at animal social science then make abstract and reasonable society constructs.

The worst combinations tend to be slave/drone or hybrid warrior based societies, both tend to be heavy handed on shooting first and asking questions later.

the exact same problems with seperate races and the evolution of that society with it ending as race has with personal unofficial racism and hatred remaining between many only a million times worse because we would actually be different and actually be of different races and origins rather tan of different skin pigments so the differences would cause higher extremity

that is unless they are much more technologically/physically advanced and civil than us in which case we would have to be nice and all the racism would be forced down whilst they treat us almostlike equals or pets. tbh this is probably more likely as there is no way that in 200 years we will be able to contact other species so we just have to hope theyre only just capable and will therefore take us seriously and bother with us

Is one species legitimatley better than the the other? Greater than less than, man. If they were pretty much interchangeable, I think we could work it out somehow.

If there was to be a society were Humans and another Alien race in the future, lets say 200 years, what problems would be encountered along the way? The one problem that comes to my mind is that when both Human and Alien children go to the same school they would have to learn each others history and other things. It is hard enough learning about my races history, it would be bloody difficult to learn another races history. What other problems to you guys/gals think would happen?

Bad question, you define absolutely nothing about our hypothetical alien brethren. Are we talking nigh-incomprehensible cthulhuoids, newly discovered primitives, or just those Star Trek aliens that you couldn't tell apart from a human if they just wore large hats?

In all likelihood we'd find no common ground whatsoever with species from another planet. We barely share any characteristics with different species from our own damn planet. So, I guess the most likely scenario is that the biggest problem with a human/alien society would be our mutual incompatibility quickly dissolving said society.
