Perhaps this has been addressed already, but the search button doesn't seem to want me to find it.
Whilst trying to access GFWL through Fallout 3, I'm being told that it needs to update. I can't get to any patches or DLC for Fallout 3 without this update, apparently. Only problem is, the update loads all the way to the end of the loading bar, then never finishes.
I'm assuming this is one of Microsoft's new marketing strategies. By making sure we never get their updates, we're forced to buy new games so that we can actually have some new content. But I could be wrong.
Any help on how to fix this?
I have tried downloading the GFWL live update from their main site, but when I go through the installation process, there's no indication that anything has actually been installed on my computer, and I still need the update!

This happened to me ages ago.

I just left it to do it overnight, and when I got back in the morning, it worked :) hope I helped

Ok, just as I went back to check, it finally worked for me.
But here I run into another issue. The GFWL marketplace is asking me for 800 gamer Microsoft points. Seeing as I'm not foolish enough to have bought an Xbox 360 for this game, this is clearly a mistake, as no self-respecting PC player would pay for additional content that should be considered a freebie. Where can I find the actual PC update?

Try this: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1086

It will remove the connection between FO3 and GFWL so you can play without it.

Does it have the updates there, so I can play without having to pay for what should be free?

You don't have to pay for the updates but for DLC, of course you do;) I haven't bought Anchorage or The Pitt yet, but its kind of stupid that as a PC gamer it appears that you're buying Xbox points. Since I havent' offcially done it yet, are those Xbox points actually the same for us PC users? Just curious. You'd figure when you're purchasing and putting credit card info in for a PC game, the web page wouldn't say XBOX Live all over it.

The reason I haven't bought any DLC yet is because you're not actually paying $10 for each one. You're paying $12.50 for each one since the points aren't bought on a 1-1 ratio. Its like tokens at an arcade. You get 4 tokens for a 1$ but all the games cost 5. Its total BS and I'm not playing their game.

I'd sooner torrent the DLC then be screwed over. Its the principle of the matter, not the price. If its $10 charge me $10. Don't jerk my chain.
Well, I just tried to buy Microsoft points right now, desperate man that I am.
It was such a galling, unnecessarily byzantine process, with the FAQ basically sending you round in circles and going absolutely bloody nowhere.
Now I've downloaded both the modules, and neither of them work! No matter how many times I click the retry button they fail to install

My friend, this ocurred to me as well. Exactly where are you? At my college campus, the school's Internet provider HATES the GFWL updater. However, the second I got home it worked!

I'm at home, as it's the only place I have Fallout 3 installed.

Hmmm. Now that puzzles me. The only thing I can suggest is going to someone else's house and trying it then, as certain 'Net providers hate on the system. I couldn't download updates here at school until someone got a router (with no password, what a buffoon), and that solved the problem.

Ok, next issue: I've gotten both Operation Anchorage and The Pitt to download, and both of them say they're installing. From what I've heard, they shouldn't even need to install, let alone talk more than half an hour, not counting the 5 minutes straight clicking retry to do so!
Is this normal?

Has anybody else experienced this issue? They've been "installing" for several hours now, and still nothing.

That's just plain silly. Something is quite clearly wrong. Hope that it fixes itself...

Aye. Well, I opened it up today, and I tried again. They both installed. Instantly.
Question is, when is the content activated? Shouldn't the Anchorage DLC radio signal appear as an option on my pip-boy? And where is the Pitt?

Games for Windows Live is a problem in and of itself. The sooner Microsoft learns that PC gamers aren't going to start paying for things they've been able to get for free since Doom, the better off they will be.

GFWL is going to have to become free, or piss off. There is no middle ground in this.
