so, i have 3 dualshock 3 controllers and none of them will charge, they work when plugged in to the USB but when you unplug them they instantly die. i read online that it can be that the battery has been charged too many times and refuses to charge but i have only had them since april and they haven't been used that much, for the past few months i haven't even touched them.

any advice?

WOW! i have Sixaxis from about 3 years ago and they still hold great charges.
If is true that over time, the recharge and discharge or batteries will ruin the lifespan, but i don't think since April.
Have you tried plugging them into a USB that isn't in the PS3 (i.e. your laptop or internet-enabled vibrator or what-have-you) as it might be the USB sockets inside the PS3 itself, especially if none of them are charging.
Beyond that, i've no idea. Although replacing the battery in a PS3 controller is surprisingly easy.

okay, turns out the USB cable i was using to charge the remote from wasn't thick enough, so the signal was being carried but couldn't carry the voltage good enough to get the full 5 volts, and if it doesn't get that it doesn't charge at all.
