I don't try to avoid it.

If I don't have the drive or ideas about me to work on it, trying to do so anyway just makes things worse and increases the urge to procrastinate.

a system I've found that works is to record a few episodes of a TV show you want to watch or something of that nature and then start working on whatever you have to do, and don't let yourself watch the TV show until you're done.

Wait, it's actually possible to avoid procrastinating? Are you kidding? Since when?! Tell me! That's not funny!

In all honestly I don't end up avoiding it. I either end up finishing something right-off out of either ease or genuine interest or, more often than not, I finish something under pressure as the deadline for it quickly approaches.

That is not a method that I would recommend. At all.

All I do is this.
I hit myself in my nutsack and right DO YOUR FUCKING WORK on a piece of paper in front of me.
I have done this three times and whenever I procrastinate I do it again.
Trust me, it works.

Basically says most of it in the title, I am 9 hours from handing my last piece of work for the semester in(I'm a 3rd year History student at a Scottish university), however even now I find myself creating threads like this on the escapist, trying to watch cricket, and typing my essay only when sudden urges of guilt force me to.

So the question is simple, what is your advice, as escapists, for avoiding this in the next semester, and the rest of life?

EDIT: * I am aware of the irony of putting off my essay longer simply to ask for advice on how to put it off... It's like avoiding the procrasination workshops they run, because, 'I'll go next week' yup, I said it...*

2nd EDIT: I can't remove my internet connection as many of the services/sources I am working on are on it, this is the curse of modernistaion I tell you, THIS!!!
when you find an awnser that works give me a buzz...

I think all my assignments this year have been last minute... I cant help it, i cbf doing it untill i have to >.<

You just need to have mental discipline and really want to do it. No amount of depravation will help. You're probably procrastinating because your heart really isn't in it. However it's part of growing up to realise that sometimes we all have to do stuff that is boring from time to time. With maturity you'll get better at handling this.

I'm just kidding. Ignore the clock. Never say, "I'll do it at this time." Because you will keep pushing it farther and farther back.
This the key!

Procrastination is a little force in your head. You have to go into you head and smother the idiot and get back to work.

I'm in engineering and I avoid procrastination by doing my assignments and stuff in groups of 2 or 3.

Shoot yourself in the foot and say you were involved in a drive by. Your teacher should give you more time. Then just type it up in the hospital!

Seriously: I work for 10-30 minute intervals than watch or play something for 10-30 minutes depending on how long I worked. At first I would only work ten minutes, but playing video games for ten minutes is a bit of a waste so I work 30 and play 30!
Or I just don't do the assignment. Only X amount of work is needed in high school. Once I hit X I sleep through the majority of the year.

These first two are some of the best advice you'll get. Procrastination is a disease in some people, and you just have to fight against it. However, there does come a time when all the strategies won't work anymore. You have to ask yourself what your priorities are, and why. You're going to have to really look inside yourself and discover the source of your procrastination. This next bit of advice:

Just do your damn work. No one can make you but YOU.
...sucks. It doesn't do anything about the source of the procrastination, and so EVERY SINGLE TIME it becomes this battle over again, and you still won't have enough control over yourself to make certain you win. I hope this helps.

HA HA this is what happens when you don't say I'll post later.
