I have no idea what progressive metal is, but I just recently got into dream theater and opeth, and I know they fall into this category.
What I want to know is are there any more good bands like dream theater and opeth, that have the same feel of music and have different stages to there songs.

not really progressive metal, more progressive [heavy rock/jazz influence] but The Mars Volta. The first two albums (de-loused in the comatorium and frances the mute)are easier to get in to, after that they're very much an acquired taste

Progressive metal is a tag magazines make up to seem up to date. How can two bands that sound so different be in the same genre.
I ignore subgenres entirely and listen to the music, see if I like it. I'm not going to ignore something because it's not a Trad-Death-Metal-Core-Thrash thingy.

Good bands to listen to, well done that man.

I'm not overly into prog metal, but give Coheed and Cambria [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGpbd6BUO0I] and Mastodon [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ3ehmsQSV0] a listen to, I'd say.
