Project Beast- Rumoured From Software Project

Soooo I haven't found any other threads about the subject, but I have seen several threads about Dark Souls in general, so thought this rumor about another title from the developer might be of interest, which for now has been titled Project Beast.

This particular rumor actually seems to be divided into several different segments that may prove True or False; a quick summary is as follows...

-First, most obviously, the leaked screenshots are for a new title From Software is developing, and not just a scam by a mean person. ._. Friggin Fallout 4...

-Like the original Demon Souls, they are rumoured to be working on this title in conjunction with Sony Japan Studios.

-Because of the studio connection, and despite evidence of a different time period, (guuuns,) the rumor suggests that this may indeed be an outright sequel to Demon Souls, or at least taking place in the same fictional universe; not simply a spiritual successor, as Dark Souls was.

-Finally, and again hinted at because of the supposed involvement of Sony Japan Studios, this title is rumored to be a PlayStation exclusive, possibly PlayStation 4 only.



As I mentioned, this is a bit of a multifaceted rumor. The game might not exist at all, or it could exist only to be revealed as a multi platform title. It might be in the Demon Souls universe, or just another similar title. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator and director of Demon Souls and the first Dark Souls, did not direct Dark Souls 2, so it's entirely possible he, and others, were developing this title on the side.

What do you guys think? I imagine some of you probably know both the developer and the series better than I, think these rumors have any merit to them? And if so, would a Demon Souls sequel, or even another spiritual successor, be something that interests you?

Ehh... just looks like Dark Souls: Black Powder Edition.

Which is admittedly a better prospect than merely being Dark Souls 3.

Will keep an eye out. From Software have the potential to make something that I'd like.

I seriously hope it's a completely new IP that isn't directly Souls related, I don't like any of the Soul series game and yet I'm still waiting for From to create a new Armored Core game that isn't at all like 5.

I just want another AC or new IP from them that isn't Souls, I want something new from them I can get into that isn't solely marketed to the ultra hardcore BDSM crowd.

besides there's still other series that they've made previously and neglected equally and if it also means yearly Souls games then it also means they are going to join the ranks of every other game that gets made the same.

So now that the Souls series managed to be available it a lot more platforms for a lot more people we go back to being Playstation exclusive? THat kind of sucks. Looks cool though.

Yeah, I'm sooooo excited by this news. It all makes sense though; Miyazaki not being involved in DkS2, the recent takeover of Fromsoft by Kadokawa, Sony wanting to correct their mistake of losing the publishing rights of the Demon's Souls IP to Atlus and Namco Bandai.

I also hope 'Project Beast' will be a completely new IP(like 'Project Dark' became Dark Souls). Obviously since DkS is my favorite game of all time I don't hope this game will deviate too far from the core design principles of Souls. But with the success of Dark Souls and the involvement of Miyazaki that is unlikely.

Just the thought of a completely new Souls game on a new-gen console most likely directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki makes me super excited. Literally can't wait for some official reveal or something.

Hopefully it is a sequel to Demons Souls since I like the characters in it and the whole concept of the fog destroying a huge chunk of a continent.

I really -really- hope they stick with that title, because it's pretty beast.

(I'm not even joking, "Beast" sounds awesome. Haterade).

Looks neat though, although definitely souls-ish (which is fine). I'll keep an eye out as we get more details.

Also, this is likely a sign of a more frequent release schedule, as most studios have been doing, since they've alternated teams to work on different projects as most developers seem to do now-a-days. Could be good, could be bad, but we'll see.

Either way, something wicked this way comes.

Oh, I really don't want this to be a sequel to either Souls game. I prefer similar style and theme in a different world than direct sequels, at least for this series. More room to change things around.

So does anyone know whether Miyazaki is actually still employed by From anymore? I keep hearing from disparate sources that he completely left. I don't know what to believe in that regard. If he IS the director for this game, then I'm all aboard the hype train.

Fun fact: Its interesting that the in-development name is "Project Beast" because the Old One's soul is actually named "Beast's Soul". Food for thought.

The use of firearms do suggest the possibility that it's a new IP. A couple people have also commented that in some screenshots, there seem to be an unusually high number of enemies on-screen, suggesting this title might be more action oriented, and less about getting your ass kicked by overpowered foes. (Obviously this could be waaay off.) Currently the two things that are leading others to believe this might be Demon's Souls is that one of the images show what is being enthusiastically titled a 'Fog Gate,' and of course the rumoured involvement of Sony. (basically, that the reason for the collaboration at all it is so From Software can utilize the Demon's Souls setting and such.)

Neither is conclusive of course.

As I said before, whether or not it turns out to be platform exclusive is likely going to hinge entirely upon whether or not Sony Japan Studios is in any way collaborating, or helping fund and publish the project. If that is the case, it would basically be the same situation as it was for Demon's Souls, or for a more recent example, Sunset Overdrive. The Dark Souls series was able to go multi platform in large part because it was published by Namco and From Software, with no publishing or development assistance by Sony Studios. I also seem to recall hearing something about how Sony partially owned the rights to the Demon's Souls IP, which is why Dark Souls was made as a spiritual successor rather than directly tying into it.

If Sony doesn't have any direct contribution to the title, then it will probably end up being multi platform. So keep your fingers crossed! :3

This is falling out of rumor and more into 'things I heard on the Internet, but haven't verified for myself,' but apparently not only was Miyazaki absent from development of Dark Souls 2, so were numerous members of the development team from previous titles. If this is the case, then it would seem extremely likely that he took a chunk of the original team and had them focus on an alternate project, while the others (whom the Internet has dubbed the 'B Team') worked on Dark Souls 2.

Some more food for thought is that a couple of folks on NeoGaf have pointed out that reputed insiders on the site (yeeeeesss, take forum insiders with a healthy grain of salt,) have been hinting at this for a while now. For some creepy reason, the posts have been deleted since yesterday, but I did read them, so I can confirm that they at least existed once upon a time. xP they largely included rather cheeky use of the word 'Beast,' such as 'A new DeS game would be a whole different beast,' and 'TGS is going to be a Beast of a show.'

The last one, oddly enough, was back in 2013, before that year's TGS, suggesting that the game was originally slated to be announced back then. It either suggests that the posting was simply a lucky coincidence, or that for whatever reason it was decided to delay the announcement for a while, either because the title wasn't far enough along to reveal, or perhaps Sony just wanted to keep some of their cards close to their chest in the wake of the extremely positive buzz that E3 already garnered them.

It wouln't surprise me, From Software have always been making all kinds of games, so why not sme more Demon's Souls? I just kinda hope they do something to differntiate it from Dark Souls, f i turns out to be true, i'm hoping for smething closer to Kngs Field or Eternal Ring.

I'm excited no matter what it turns out to be, From Software almost always manage to make something interesting. Have been one of my favourite companies ever since i discovered them on the ps2. Honestly i hope it's a new IP, it's been a while since they made something fresh .

The title made me think it was some cool game about playing as a beast or a werewolf or a monster or something.
Instead, it's just Dark Souls 3. I am disappointed...

I'm sure they wll make a new AC game sooner or later, but it will probably take a while since they just released Verdict Day a year ago or something like that. It would be weird if they weren't working hard on an ACIV by now (There seems to be 1 spin-off for each regular installment).

Speaking of neglected franchises, maybe it's the "long awaited" sequel to EverGrace .
