As the title says, PR is now a free standalone game.
For those who do not know, Project Reality was a mod for Battlefield 2, focusing on more realistic gameplay (as much as the engine allowed) and teamwork, with huge maps and player counts (many servers are around 128). It has been in active development for over 10 years and has a huge amount of content, with dozens of maps and playable factions, and hundreds of different weapons and vehicles to use. It is utterly fantastic, and now that it is totally free and standalone there is no reason to not at least give it a try.
Although primarily touted as multiplayer shooter, it does also have full single player bot support for most of it's maps, and with INI tweaks you can get 96 bots per map. If you aren't at all interested in the multiplayer I would still highly recommend it for the bot gameplay, as it is effectively a gigantic war game sandbox, with all the freedom a Battlefield game has, without the awkward controls and ultra realism of ArmA.
I would highly recommend giving the manual a quick flick through, as a lot of the gameplay mechanics are quite unique (like building FOB's and using back up sights).
Here's a playlist of me playing with bots for those who want a general idea of what the game looks like and how it plays. These videos are for the previous version (1.2) but hasn't changed much since then:
So go give it a download, see if you like it!
