You may have heard that last light, a sleepy Dutch town had become the scene of Project X Haren. It was, by mistake, an open invitation Facebook, and in all of the mediahype, it gatherd over 15000 likes on Facebook, and a lot (I don't have exact numbers) of people were coming.

The police were expecting chaos and riots, which is why they had pulled extra officers from half the country to try and keep the peace, with riot police on standby. Unfortunatly, they were nessecary. According to our media, things weren't bad until around 23:00, when the first riots strated.

It took them over 2 hours before the peace had returned, leaving the town of Haren in chaos.

Personally, I find this disgusting. Why would you even go to a party like this, when you know it's going to end in chaos and riots? A lot of them were young people, shouldn't their parents have stopped them from going? And why were the media hyping this up so badly? There have been unconfirmed reports that other events like this are being planned, and I'm expecting the same results.

But the reason i'm setting this thread up is because I'd like to know how you feel about this. Would you go to something like this? Do you think it's a good idead for every one to hype it up like it happend here? Or have you even been in Haren?

I think it's dumb. I don't want to go to a party with loads of strangers, I'd rather have a party with twenty of my friends, it's not like we would be having a quiet night.

In my eyes, a bit of chaos is good for a party, but that's just overboard. It's silly and childish and it's just for the sake if being 'THE BIGGEST PARTY EVAR!!!'.

As a Dutchman I can supply your story with the advanced skillfulness of being able to read the Dutch language.

The way I heard it, the mayor had in advance decided that this party would end in chaos, and had sent riot control into the party almost as soon as it started, without any sign of violence.
When asked what was happening to the participants they would state that nothing actually happened until the police showed up.
Then the media had been blowing this up to exorbitant heights as well.

But your point about "Why would you even go to a party like this, when you know it's going to end in chaos and riots?" Is kinda moot. There was no reason to expect that this party was going to end in chaos. Sure there were an awful loot of hooligans at the place, and they were the ones who started the riots, but most people didn't go there expecting chaos. It was being advertised as THE happening thing, so of course people went to have a party.

i actually was there, it was pretty alright until the cops decided to show. then again the cops didn't show up till a few hooligans decided to go on a rampage. but if the police didn't decide to charge this wouldn't get to it

See, these things hardly ever happen in japan.
They would probably form a nice neat line and huddle in groups.

You should see our religious fanatics at riots, they are hundreds of people yet they never run out of bottles or rocks.

OT: That is just stupid, I would rather do a party with 10 people rather than go to this.

So... What's the big deal?

Looks like the typical German karneval at noon to me. Well, apart from it being dark.

OT: Yeah, this is fucking stupid, but its not exactly out of the ordinary these days.

I like the part where, after 5 minutes of throwing bottles and edging forward shouting insults, they all run back when 2 policemen make vague movements in direction of the crowd.

I mean, if you're gonna try and fight the police, fucking fight them. Don't stand there wasting good alcohol, making a massive mess for someone to clean up. Man up and run in. Then at least you can shut the fuck up when you get your ass handed to you.
that's how a riot with adolescents works around here.

They tend to do that.

I suppose its better that way, since it minimizes the amount of people who get hurt. Although I will say that while I wouldn't cheer, I wouldn't exactly feel sorry if one of these bottle throwing idiots got wacked over the head with something.
a few actuelly did, one of my friends thought it was "cool" to stay and riot, she came back a few hours later with blood all over her face because ME wacked her
