People who haven't seen it before, there is a good chance of spoilers ahead. You have been warned. It's a pretty good movie and I'd hate to ruin anything.

Now, I just got back from the movies. I saw Prometheus with my dad and little brother. I had watched the Movie Bob vid about the movie before and I was suspecting Dave to have his own plans while I watched. When I brought up that he had his own agenda other than Weylend's afterwards, they both disagreed. To me it seemed like Dave resented humanity or at least wanted to see the "more superior species" succeed over the other, and wanted to bring the "aliens" to Earth. Just look at the way he acts the first time people went into the pyramid. And why else would he poison Charles? I think it was part of his plan to get the "alien" on board the ship, and he hoped that what's-her-name wanted to go back to Earth with another one of the ships. My dad said that the only reason why Dave poisoned Charles was just to experiement on a human he doesn't like.
I almost forgot, Dave all but admitted wanting to kill Weylend so he'd have his own form of free-will.

So, does Dave have his own agenda or is he just following Weylend?

On a side note: What was up with that zombie frog thing that took out half the crew?

David definitely seemed like he thought of himself as a superior "species" compared to humans. I loved that line where Charles says "We're making you pretty close to humans" or something like that, and David just smiles and says "Not too close I hope".

And from his perspective he probably seems like the shit, right? He doesn't have to sleep so he spends all his time studying or being awesome at basketball, he can perform scientific experiments without any kind of protection, and (I don't know the lore but I'm assuming that) he doesn't ever die.

His relationship with Weyland is pretty weird. I think he secretly resents him in kind of an Oedipal way, but he isn't trying to harm him. I think he did actually ask the engineer how to stop Weyland from dying. In fact, I think that's why the engineer responded the way he did - a species that can seed life on a planet understands that energy and matter can't be created or destroyed - there must be a cycle of birth and death. They're clearly willing to sacrifice themselves to create life. Something immortal is an abomination.

That's the most interesting part about Dave to me. He's designed like a human, thinks like a human for the most part. But he can't die. Because of that, he doesn't have any real fears. And similarly, he doesn't value individual lives the way a mortal human does. This is why he's willing to sacrifice Charles.

I don't think his motives were always evil though. Some of what he did was for Weyland, but some was to satisfy his own curiosity. Even at the end, he could have turned the ship around and headed back for earth, but he was willing to go to the engineer planet. He even seemed to view Elizabeth as a "test subject" - specifically testing her faith and checking her response, admiring her survival instinct.

I can't wait to see what he does in the sequel now that he's "free" (as long as someones willing to tote him around).

As for the zombie... I think there's a Hollywood rule that you can't enter the third act with more than three background characters.

David could've been the narrative frame for the movie, and is one of the many missed oppertunities this film has.

In my opinion David should've been the main character, the one who observes his creators meet their Creators, and consequently explore some interesting parallels. They seem to do somewhat of a throwback to Ash's mindset from Alien; An android who has mainly distain for his flawed creators, and is enamoured with this pure, emotionless alien life form. But David is way too upfront about it. How the crew didn't notice this droid was up to something fishy is anyone's guess.

And the zombie pretzel guy was Fifield whose helmet gets burned through by the alien blood and exposses him the black goo tainted atmosphere of the shrine. Atleast that's what Wiki said.
