Promoting a group

Im just wondering this without breaking the rules, what is the right way to promote a new group? because i have a real bad feeling that if i just posted somthing on the forums to join my new group, i would get the ever loving crap flamed out of me.

Well, when I asked Labyrinth about promoting my LRR group, she said 'Anywhere but the forums'. So...yeah.

hm... this might give me an idea...

you could drop subtle hints in threads like "Yea, I think there might be a group dedicated to writing fanfiction of bad fanfiction, might check the user groups" or "Oh I get it, youre a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Potatoes, I heard about your group"


but yea, self promotion is really frowned upon here, at most just send private messages to people you might think would want to join, and be civil about it.

so if i just said somthing like. "Yea, i heard that theres this group called Avatar Hunters" or somthing along those lines, i wont get flamed?

Is your group about something?
For example I am in the Stargate Fan Group here, and I got roped into it after posting on a thread about stargate. You post a topic that might attract people you could pm about joining your group. That way you are not promoting the group as much as you are noticing people who might fit into it or be interested.

Its just a group about looking for Avatars people like (To tell the truth, i got the idea because i got sick of looking at all the ZP logos ><)
