So Adam Jenson messaged me yesterday with the suggestion that I start a monthly Escapist art competition. I figured I'd run with it, so here goes for details.

At the start of each month there would be a new competition opened up, with a week for submissions to be completed. The second week would be judging by a panel of people to take the two 'best' submissions from each medium (eg. two from prose, two from photography and so on.) These would be collectively voted on by the community for an overall winner.

The submissions themselves would be based around three things. A prompt, a theme and a motif would be given for each different competition.

Prompt:

Theme: Courage.

Motif: Buddhism.

Any prompt images will be used with permission of the artist, and I'll request that they're available as stock for photomanipulation and the like. Anything else which you used must be with permission as well. We're not condoning copyright infringements here.

The submission can be anything. A poem, a painting. Hell, a sketch in the back of a school book if you really want. Just so long as it follows the guidelines.

Rules and guidelines:

-Nothing which is unsafe in a work environment.
-Make it original, please. Feel free to use stock images etc. as mentioned above but get permission and actually change them in an original fashion.
-It's no problem for the submission to be confronting and thought provocative however don't let it get out of hand. Tasteful stuff please.

Anyway. Feel free to put up suggestions, and expressions of interest. That's what this thread is for. There may be a badge in line for the winner each month too.

Definitely interested in the poetry (and possibly prose) categories. Good idea Adam Jenson & Labyrinth :D

Just a note, that example reference is -not- going to be one for the actual competition.

I've got a few pieces of writing I could submit for shits and giggles, and I can do voice recording for something or other. Sounds like it could be pretty cool.

Good because I'm stumped on that one.

I'm in, so long as I can think of something to write/record (audio).

I'm in for sure. Expect a written piece, and maybe a sketch on occasion. I look toward to participating, but count me down as interested.

I'm a pretty good photographer, but most people that have seen Labyrinth's "The Artist in Thee" thread have seen a lot of my work. I'm going to choose to sit this one out and offer my services as a "judge" if your interested.

How much can you write in a week? No, pick one category. You can include other things, such as a painting with some drawing or photography features, but stick to the single category.

I wouldn't mind being a Judge. Sounds like fun, I think.

At present, I'm looking for people to be involved rather than judge. If after one or two months we need more judges, I'll let you know.

When will it start? Will there be a January one or will this start in February?

Sounds pretty cool. I might have got used to my new Bamboo and Gimp by then, so I could submit a sketch.
