I'm quite neutral with the Halo series. I don't hate it, but I don't really make a big deal out of it (except ODST, but that's only cause Master Chief's isn't in it), and I'm intrigued to hear what you think is good and bad about it. I'll go ahead and start:

Pro's:
Unique gameplay (environments and weapons, that is)
Good graphics
Good voice-acting
Fun multi-player

Con's:
Storyline isn't THAT good
Pathetic AI
Easier than shooting a fat man in a wheel barrel 5 feet away
Most weapons are weak and weird
Campaign is short
Multi-player tends to get boring with not enough maps
Soem multi-player games are plain boring
There are no tactics, just run up and shoot them until shield runs out, then shoot some more

EDIT: When I say fun multiplayer, I see it that it's unique in it's own way, provides an amount of fun, and is fun to play online. I play with my brother all the time online, and in the beginning it was tons of fun when we were starting to get good, winning some games and making some major "in your face" kills... Then it got repetitive.

Good game, not the best there is.

Unique gameplay? Are you sure?

Story? I thought it was just "pew pew pew aliens kill them pew pew".

Good graphics? Which game? Halo 1 was crappy on PC, enough for my laptop to run. Halo 2 required Vista for absolutely no reason except for being money-grabbing. And Halo 3 is an exclusive.

Also, multiplayer is as good as the community. And xbox live + Halo fanbase... Uhm. Yeah.

I dont think that Halo as that many unique weapons really. I see unique as Gravity Gun or the Portal Gun.

I've never played it (any of the three), and really don't ever see myself trying them. Firstly, because I'm a PC gamer (with XP, so thats Halo 2+3 out as mentioned above), secondly, there are so many FPS around the place (new and old) and theres nothing about Halo that makes it stand out in the way that Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Quake II, Soldier of Fortune, Half Life, etc. did for me.

Multiplayer... Halo...
I was banned from several servers because I was actually good at the game.
Just left me with a big feeling of "meh time to move on".

Halo 2 was more of the same. Bad vehicle controls, pants-on-head AI, a new protagonist to play as introduced for no other reason than because the MC was getting a little tiresome, turing a previoulsy generic marine into an indestructible main character, an utter non-sequitur for a story, random new weapons and a complete lack of the iconic ones that appeared in Halo: Combat Evolved...
Who honestly thought that was a good idea?

Honestly, I see no cons to Halo.

- fun gameplay
- great soundtrack
- good controls
- interesting areas and enemies
- nice storyline

I despise the people who hate on Halo simply because it's popular. There's nothing wrong with Halo and I've yet to find someone who can tell me what the problem they have with it is - it always seems to be "BAWWW OVERRATED!"

I couldn't agree more. Most people see the 'over rated' thing as a reason to hate Halo, while they wouldn't see it for the DECENT game it is. Instead they feel they have to disrespect everyone who enjoy it. And however the story is good/bad is really a question of opinion. You can't say it IS good/bad, only that you think it is.

This.

However, I find that I cannot enjoy Halo when playing with random people, because I always get stuck on the worst team imaginable. Therefore, I always have like 2 noobs, a split screen person, and another random guy who probably quits 2 minutes into the game, and then we just get raped from there on in.

I just can't bring myself to like the game. The SMG is worthless, the BR is just...average. Whoever controls the power weapons wins. I don't know, I'm starting to play it a little more again, but it's just too bland. Like toast without butter.

I played Halo: Combat Evolved a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say that your list correlates to what I think of the game. There is one thing I disagree with, though. The environments are as repetetive as bricks in a brick wall. Nearly every area used the same textures and same map meshes, which was a shame, really.

Furthermore, I would like to add that the music never fitted the mood. You can't honestly tell me that some Enya crap fits into a game about shooting aliens.

Other than that, it's just a nice game and I enjoyed playing it, but it's nothing special.

Pros:
-Fun multiplayer
-Fun (if repetetive) melee combat
-Interesting little power-ups (i.e. bubble shields and the like)
-Good (if overused, not that that's a bad thing necessarily) controls
-It can be nice to be player two for once (Plasma grenades)

Cons:
-Startlingly redundant story
-Bad weapons and good weapons, no in-between
-Enemies that take the fun out of campaign (I miss fighting Elites)
-Often there is poor level design, with only one way to do anything
-The enemies and what-not feel woefully choreographed
-Enemies that often make me scream "DUR DE DURRR!" because of good AI in some enemies (Jackals and Drones) and terrible AI in others (Brutes and Grunts)
-Soundtrack that gets boring after a while
-It can be annoying to be player one
-To "balance" things (or so I would imagine) player two seems to be the favorite target for every enemy on the map, I had noticed this in Halo 2 and 3

All in all I think it's decent, my main problems being with the AI and plot.

Yep, in multiplayer I always get the bad team. I end up playing against people like that guy in Make Love not Warcraft and Koreans. My team is noobs, ragequitters, and sometimes hackers who get banned.
I have had to fight against people who were actually invincible in that game.

Really? Fun?

Triple-shot pistol = always win in Halo:CE. Which is the only one I played because it was on PC.

The campaign was one of your cons, but to be honest, I sort of kind of liked it but never finished it because other games were just more pressing and interesting at the time for me. The PC version came out around a bad time for me is all.

And the multiplayer, again, the pistol should not be remotely as powerful as it is. It made every pub game a complete joke, especially when playing with people I actually know (you know, the type that think 'pwnin nubs' makes them skilled) ended up being me winning spread +10 game after game...

It's just, you move so slow, so incredibly slow, it's near-impossible to miss AT ALL. And if 3 shots with a pistol takes someone out, and jumping does not help dodging, the skill-cap for the game is low, and tactics are what make the multiplayer competitive at all.

My biggest con with the game, as you can tell, is its lack of staying power, the lack of me wanting to ever see or play it again. Compare the multiplayer to, say, Quake 3 or UT, which have high skill-caps and a lot more mobility, making it more fun to practice at and be skilled at.

Pretty much sums up what I think about it. It's an alright game, I just wished people who rant and raved about it played more games.

Pro's:
Story-line is pretty good.
Good AI.
Very challenging on the harder difficulties.
The weapons are, and feel, powerful.
Campaign is short but has immense replayability.
Most Multiplayer matches are awesome.
There's a fair amount of tactics involved, so it's not just running around and shooting.

Cons:
Mediocre graphics.
Bad voice-acting.
Not very unique gameplay.
