I don't know if he counts, but I'd go with the Punisher. The hardcore vigilante street-justice that Punisher is all about NEVER struck a chord with me. He's just so... self-righteous.
I've always found that to be one of the best parts. His righteousness just illustrates how batshit insane the dude is.

I also agree that I was rooting for the humans to win in avatar.
WHAT? The humans in that movie couldn't have been any more cartoonishly evil if they all had Snidley Whiplash mustaches, wore top hats, and tied all the Na'vi to railroad tracks.
I just didn't like the Na'vi, they seemed so silly and I couldn't take them seriously. Plus I alway's hate that whole theme of military equipment like gunships and mechs being beaten by animals and arrows just because JUSTICE!!!

I was rooting for the humans in that. "Show those stupid blue people how useful technology is!"

Also a human supremesist :p
That may be, but the humans weren't any better. Like I said, the corporate guys were cartoonishly evil and the military guys were cartoonishly stupid. "Herp derp, let's go shoot missiles at a tree."

OT: As for protagonists I've disliked, one that comes to mind is the protagonist from Gantz (can't remember his name, sorry). Stopped watching the show about 5 or 6 episodes in because I couldn't stand the stupid little horn-ball fuck-head.

That boy from Evangelion... I couldn't finish watching because of him.
He's so annoying that makes me want to kill innocent bystanders...
^This.
Only more so. I was in an anime club and I had to leave cuz the first anime was Evangelion and I couldn't stand (Shinji, I that his name) to the point that I had to leave before the first ep was even over. Lost all my nerd cred too, which where i was is actually a bad thing.

Let's see, there've been a few over the years, but I tend to forget them because I can't watch, read, or play something if I hate the protagonist.
Yu-Gi-Oh, Joey was just so stupid I wanted to set him on fire. I always liked Kaiba better, not afraid to get his hands dirty to get what he wants. There was a Christopher Crutcher book as well, I like most of his stuff but either Whale Talk or Spartan, I just couldn't stand the main character. Never made it past chapter one.
That meister with the purple hair from Gundam 00 and believe it or not, I can't stand Suzaku from Code Geass. Love the anime, and his character is awesome, but he's painfully naive, and a bit of a coward.

But Shinji still wins the cake. God i hate him so much.

And thank you to the poster above me for reminding me how much I hated that squeem from Ganzt. Really fun show but I had to quit after the first ep cuz I was gonna bash my screen in to shut him up.

Kratos from God of War. The guy is such a massive asshole.
Also Tony Montana. So happy he died.

Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher. There's just nothing likeable about him. None of the characterization that ends up getting shoved onto him via player choices is believable. The "romance" subplot is especially jarring, because he says all these lovey-dovey things to his chosen woman, and I don't buy a single word of it. There's nothing about him that suggests he's the kind of character who'd say these sorts of things, and his gravelly monotone doesn't help that one bit. Plus he has a weird-shaped head.

Jack Russell from Radiata Stories. What an annoying, shrieky little brat. He is part of the reason why I stopped playing that game. That and the gameplay just bored me. I'm told it gets better, so I suppose I'll pick it up again...eventually.

Karin Koenig from Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Not quite a protagonist, but she's the female lead, so I say she counts for the purposes of this post. She's supposed to be an officer in the military, for crying out loud, so why is she such a whiny, needy, clingy bimbo good for nothing but dressing up in slutty costumes for absolutely no reason? And on top of that, she tries to replace Alice as Yuri's love interest! NO. GTFO.

Squall Leonhart from FFVIII. I don't like Cloud, but Cloud at least had a good reason for being whiny and emo; the only thing Squall has going for him is teen angst. He sort of redeems himself near the end, but meh. Oh, and I hate Quistis too, for much the same reason I hate Karin, though not quite as intensely. She's insecure and clingy and boring.

I actually like Tidus, and I don't have a problem with Nowe, though I can totally understand the hate he gets. Caim is a billion times better. :3

Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly strikes me as a bi-polar, short tempered, self centered jackass who hated all forms of government and social order, for poorly justified reasons, mainly that the Alliance is EVILLLLLLL! I like the rest of the crew though. Even Jayne. At least he doesn't pretend he's not an asshole.

Honestly, I've yet to play a game whose protagonist I hated; I either like them or I'm "meh" towards them.

The closest thing to hating a protagonist was when I was playing one of my favorite games, Tales of the Abyss. Luke fon Fabre starts out as a brat and a jerk, and I didn't care too much for that. I started liking him more when his personality does a 180 later in the game, but even then he wasn't quite as interesting as the other characters. He's fun to to play as, though, so there's that.

I watched Avatar recently and the Na'vi just pissed me off. They acted like they were better than the humans and didn't even listen to the humans terms. I have a few others, but that is the biggest one. What protagonists that you are supposed to side with did you hate?(and by extension prefer the antagonist)
Now, It was a while since I saw that movie. But i distinctly remember humans coming to the Na'Vi and just wrecking their shit up because humanity is greedy as fuck, because we are.
Yeah that whole lets just firebomb them and take it thing certainly doesn't do them credit but then again for the entire first part of the movie I just kept thinking, why wont they take the deal and just give them the metal.

Wow, nobody said Dante yet?
Well, Dante.
He's a smug prick. Everything he says is just smarm.

Protagonists who just swan around being smug and acting like they're fucking perfect piss me right off. Especially in games.
I honestly don't get why Dante has so much damned Venom thrown at him around here.
Ok, naturally everyone's got different tastes on stuff and i understand you don't like him (And there is nothing wrong with that) but the way everyone goes on about him you'd think he was as bad as freaking Vaan.

Dante's not all that well developed in some parts, yet he still has a backstory and has gone through some measure of development as a character but that's not why i like him. I like him because he's one of the only protagonists i've seen who'll not only willingly throw himself into a life and death situation without a fuss, but he'll go into it with a smile and ready to crack a joke. In other words, he's a fun character and as such he's just damned fun to play as (Not all protagonists need to be mopey and serious all the time guys). He's a bit of a subversion to the usual "I'M NOT FULLY HUMAN! WAAAH! PITY ME!" Protagonists we usually get saddled with as he's fully acknowledged what he is but doesn't let it rule him. He just goes with the flow, and has decided to just try and get as much fun out of the stuff life throws his way. He will admittedly get serious if things become personal for him, but again he isn't ruled by his past or what he is: He acknowledges his lifes been less then stellar(And if you actually go reading up on him and Vergils history..it's been pretty shitty for them both even if Dante got the slightly better deal compared to his brother), but he knows sitting around sulking about it isn't going to help anyone least of all himself.
And let's be honest, he's a half demon of excellent lineage and power: If anyone wasn't confident after having that kind of power and doubting themselves then i would be raising some eyebrows.

I honestly just view Dante like I do Deadpool: A fun little character who shouldn't be taken the least bit seriously and who's just there for some damned fun. Go in to Devil May Cry ready to just have a fun little battle romp then you'll have a blast. If you go in trying to judge him like a serious protagonist, then you're naturally going to be disappointed incredibly disappointed as he just doesn't work as a serious character (Eg. Devil May Cry 2, and i guess we can throw Ninja Theories adaption in too from what I've seen).
That said, you don't have to like him and i understand he isn't everyones cup of tea but..i honestly wouldn't have him any other way and i just don't get why everyone hates him so damned much (I've read enough escapist posts to get that people seem to hate his guts for some reason). I love him how he is and i honestly wouldn't have him any other way.

Nathan Drake because he was killing for treasure. Sure, the other guys weren't willing to talk it out, but.... idk.

Romcom characters, they usually cause drama for no reason or break up with people because of stupid reasons.

Another reason for me was this past season ending. Ted supposed to be this nice guy that we all root for, but he's just selfish and ends up ruining a marriage and leading a girl on because he thinks it will make him "happy". Add on that we're probably going to have at least 2 more seasons for a show that stopped being interesting a while ago, and I can't stand Ted

Another example for me is Eragon. I know they're not very great books, but every page that I read of him and those damned elves made me want to destroy something
The thing is: It should've with season 5. The buildup is there, he get the job at the university where we were told he'll meet his wife etc. And then BAM! 2 more seasons were announced. I said it back then and I say it now: They will drag the shit out of any plot they brought up for more than 1 episode. Not only that but every supposed character development that existed in the first 4 seasons will be redone or ignored to drag out the series and create conflict where every possible conflict was already there.

The only one who got more love and interesting plotlines and development was Barney and they buttfucked all his character growth with the end of the last season *why her again? WHYYYY?*. From all we know everything that now may happen is irrelevant because it'll come back to the same state as it was in season 4 (where the buildup was perfect for the final season).
Also, incoming rant

Season 5 should have been the ending, I suppose I can see that they wanted to go with Lily and Marshall getting pregnant, but it's still unnecessary. It's true that they're literally just dragging any little thing out now. First we had Marshall and Lily move to the new apartment, then they moved to the suburbs, and now they're moving back into the old apartment. And with each move by them we have Future Ted telling us how that was their place and blah blah blah.

Then we get to Ted. I'll just start with Victoria since that's easier. After she disappears in the 1st season, we don't hear from her until this past year, and we're told that "Ted has been holding these feelings for her and never got ever her." To which I say bullshit. I get we're talking about a half-hour sitcom, but if you're going to drop something like that on the viewers after 6 years, you're gonna need something to go on. Even just a throwaway line during one of his girl-of-the-week episodes saying he missed her would have been fine. But we get nothing, and now Ted is running off with her for no reason. We know she isn't the mother, so that silly "driving into the sunset thing" is a waste.

Which brings me to Ted/Robin. Stop it already. The pilot established she wasn't the mother, can we stop flirting with the idea of them in love? There's nothing dramatic about it, it's just appeasing all the shippers out there.

And speaking of the shippers, the Barney/Robin pairing was just silly. Like you said, he had all this character development lately, and we were seeing him evolve beyond a womanizer into someone more mature and then *BOOM* they blow it all to shit. When he dumped Nora to go after Robin and she rejected him, I actually thought that was good. They were finally moving on, not relying on nostalgia and something interesting could happen. When Quinn was brought in and they got engaged I thought the show had one season left. One season of baby-jokes and giving Robin her love story (maybe that guy from that episode in Season 6, her old secret crush or whatever since I think Future Ted mentioned something about them), and then Ted meets Wife at the Barney/Quinn wedding.

But no. Now we have a season of Barney/Quinn breaking up and Ted/Victoria breaking up and Barney proposing to Robin. Then we'll probably get a full season of wedding preparation for Robin/Barney with Ted just moping around before we get the end. And that's a condensed version, which doesn't account for all the $$$ the writers get for every episode they pump out, regardless of plot coherence and quality

At this point I'm finding it harder and harder to care, especially since we're no where nearer to finding out the Mother than we were in Season 5, and the jokes are slipping as well since nobody can pump out consistently good material for almost a decade

Cole Phelps of L.A. Noire. Darius Mason of Red Faction...actually, hell, most of the protagonists of the Red Faction series were not very likeable (though to be fair not all of them were as unlikeable as Darius Mason). Agent Michael Thorton of Alpha Protocol. I'm sure there are more, but those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

40k: Kaldor fucking Draigo. Mary Sue^10,000,000 with this one. Wait he did what? Okay I guess that could feasibly happe- Wait what's this about Mortarion? Yeah, no. He can't do that by himself unless he's the warp-dammed Emperor and even then, that's no cake-walk. WAAAAAAAAAARDDD!!!! For those who don't know, Kaldor Draigo carved the name of his master into the heart of the mother of all Badguys' heart which also happens to be surrounded by what amounts to hyper-infectious super space AIDS. Draigo did not become infected despite literally being inside corruption and disease itself. This is after he kills/defeats 7 Greater Daemons of More disease and nastiness (if Mortarion keeps similar company to Angron that is, which seems likely). And he destroys literally impossible architecture despite it being, well, impossible to understand. So... much... Derp.

Video Game: Evil Cole McGrath. There's a difference between being evil and just being a dick. Evil Cole falls into the latter as he has no plan other than 'be the biggest prick to everyone possible 24/7'. What's the point of giving the player a choice when the developers pretty much force the choice on you anyways? If he wanted to rule the world (OF COURSE!) at least he would have some kind of goal or end in sight, instead just kind of derps along the same path as Good Cole, and is just a twat the whole way instead. And the evil powers are also inferior to the good powers, so yeah, that too.
On that topic what about the Ultrasmurfs? instead of making them less blan and (god forbid) likeable. We get the Great defiler of Canon Matt Ward(GW's Karren Travis) to make them the only SM chapter who are "right"just because.

Korra and Mako in new Avatar series.

Huh, is the not so good looking but funny guy going to get the girl? Nope, pretty boy with no character is it. I actually found it hard to tell Mako from another firebending character (General Iroh) who was introduced in the second to last episode. Both are moody benders with no substantial character. The "romance" element seemed tacked on and contrived but had to be included since the first Avatar series had it.

Usopp from One Piece

Completely irrelevant to the crew or anything else. Only develops character in the Water Seven arc and promptly goes back to his annoying self once the story arc is over. I pray the only reason he is still in the series is so that he can provide a touching death scene later on.
I was all for Korra ending up with Boelin Instead of Mako thought they were the better couple since he had well more substance than his brother, But no we had to sit through all that crap with Mako so i hate him for it

As for Usopp i think that he is relevant to the crew in that he is what Luffy really needs cause as Luffy says Going on an Adventure with no fun isn't an adventure worth going on. Luffy's crew lacked and still to a point does lack less serious characters bar Luffy until they get Usopp, Usopp is like Luffy's clowning around buddy to make the adventure more fun.

I'm not sure if "Fuck This Guy" is the phrase your looking for. The photo would strongly indicate that this protagonist might actually enjoy something like that.
