So I'm wondering. I've been on every gaming forum from here to the ends of the earth, but there's just one thing I've never seen: another Red-Green colorblind gamer. You see, I have Protanopia, which mean that certain hues (long wavelength) of Reds and Greens. Now this doesn't mean that I can't see Green or Red at all, or that I'm barelling at full speed through New York City intersections when the light is clearly green. It just means that certain select kinds of Reds and Greens (e.g. the kind used to distinguish between locked and unlocked doors in Halo, the different base markers in Star Wars: Battlefield 2, the Peggles in Peggle).

And I wonder this because while not debilitating, I feel like I'm not the only person in the universe who mounted a screaming charge into a contested control point with his laser rifle in SW: Battlefront, only to realize 10 seconds later that the thunderous assault was mounted on his own base, or who took 2 hours to beat the flood's introductory levels in Halo 1 because all the doors looked locked.

So, I ask you, fine denizens of the Escapist. Is there anyone out there like me? Or am I just a lone anamoly, doomed the wander the confusing light scape of the gaming world forever and ever?

A local LAN buddy of mine recently explained to me that there are three ways that men can be colorblind, and he is two of these. Presumably the red/green colorblindness is one of them.

I have a friend I play World of Warcraft with who is color blind, and also is legally blind. I'll ask him for more details tonight, hopefully. I tend to be forgetful.
