Here is a hypothetical situation. You are in charge of producing a film about what to do in the case of a nuclear war (The threat is very real). What would you tell people?

Jump into a lead box? I don't know. I think no matter what the horrors after a nuclear war would make people want to kill themselves, and either way, there's a very low chance of surviving no matter what you do. I'd tell people to pray to whatever god they believe in and hug their children every night. Other then that your choices are limited.

What if the country threatening you collapses because they spent far too much money on nukes, and is no longer a threat?

Then with the money I made from making the film I buy and island and live out the rest of my days waiting for the inevitable mushroom clouds, free of any sort of responsibility.

Always have a contingency plan!

It would tell you to hide in a vault underground. It would then tell you to shoot the overseer and go back outside to find resources and slaves, and maybe find your father and take down the government while you're at it.

Aside from the fact that the whole nuke apocalypse thing is blown out of proportion, there isn't really a whole lot you can do. People caught outdoors or in the blast radius are pretty much fucked. People in cities have the whole "concrete jungle" thing on their side. The density of a city can help to cushion a ground detonation and concrete can block some radiation. Either way, the main things survivors need to worry about are getting as far from the detonation point as possible and then detoxing if possible.

Make no mistake, in the case of a CBRN attack most of you will die. The only ones who may survive will be the ones with masks already on and a running start. Of course, they get the pleasure of watching everybody do the roach dance.
