Congratulations for getting past the stage of having to disregard every release in an entire genre. Not a problem I have ever had, but not enough people are getting back into JRPGs.

This is probably the first time I've seen a thread on this subject in my life.
I know, this is the first time someone actually admitted they were wrong. Weird.

By over the top I meant that the characters are about as generic and stereotypical that a scriptwriter can get. But doesn't mean they aren't occasionally quite funny.

Not because they were meant to be funny, but because their attempt to be serious and draw out some kind of emotinal response from me is quite laughable.

Good on you for finding some light in that tunnel!
I'm the same as you were when it comes to JRPGs, finding the good ones few and far between.
I haven't found any with a very good story, and the only one I played recently whose game-play mechanics I enjoyed was Eternal Sonata. I had to get through the terrible story of that game, but the combat was entertaining.

Anyways, I might try that Tales game...but no promises.

Really it was Last Remnant that turned you back to JRPGs? Wow maybe I didn't give it enough time or something because I am a huge JRPG fan but I hated LR with a passion. I might have to give it another chance once all the other games I have qued up in my must play list have been played.

Thank you for the cookie.

Oh, and while I enjoyed Last Remnant, I feel it could quite easily be a bi-polarizing experience: Some of the things that made me laugh quite likely could bring out irrational hatred in others. It wasn't great, but it was decent and different.
