From Dtoid: http://www.destructoid.com/confirmed-playstation-vita-is-region-free-211620.phtml

We kind of thought that the Vita would be region-free, and at E3 we heard some positive news, but now we know for sure.

According to 1UP, Sony Computer Entertainment's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed it. In response to a question sent to him on Twitter about Vita being region free, he said, "Yes, it is."

Guess what I'm doing in December?

I said I wouldn't be buying boxed games for the Vita, but now it looks like I am. That's cool. If the PlayStation Network stays the way it is, you'll need a Japanese credit card or point cards to pull down PSN titles. Still, it's great to hear that importing is officially a go. If Japanese language and terrible exchange rates aren't a hurdle for you, get your order in now!

Good for those who import games.

Yeah this is going to be an amazing machine.

Once I see how long the inevitable delay is to the European launch I might considering importing if it's going to be ages.

+1 to my motivation to buy. I can now rest assured knowing that I can import anything and play it.

Isn't all of Sony's stuff region free? Last I checked only Microsoft and a handful of PC devs so region locking.

Vita: 9001 3DS: 0

I'm glad I never bought a 3DS, I'll put that money toward a Vita instead.

Not a bad feature, but it's a shame that Sony has confirmed that the Vita has a shit battery life :(

You can buy a better battery (not in the vita normally due to extra costs.) But I got the idea of, why not have both batteries with you, have em both charge, and you get like what 4, 5 hours for one and even more for the other. :D

Nintendo Region locks their products as well. The DS wasn't region locked, but the 3DS is as well as well as the Nintendo Wii. Sony just recently started making things region free for their products this generation, which I love personally.
OT: The Vita is sounding more and more appealing to me as time passes. The only thing I don't like is it's price, but I'm sure it will go down like the PS3's has.
