Why not just pick up a PS2? They're crazy cheap used, and the games can't be that expensive.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but seriously.

Because all the fucking games you can get in the store are shovelware nobody want to buy while all the good games you have to buy are you have to buy online and are freaking expensive.

To op, you really need a top of the line computer. I might be able to help you further if you give me a message.
I know what you mean $40 for ICO. WTF!!! that games almost 10 years old there is no reason for it to still be full price!!!

first of all, that's illegal, secondly ps1 emulators barely work, don't even try it

(yes it can be legal if you own all the games you're using, but give me a fucking break, that is NOT why this guy wants it)

I tried it out last fall, mostly as a test of how fast my new CPU was (fast enough to emulate some games at full speed in software rendering mode, without offloading anything to the video card, apparently), and for some games it works perfectly. Others, not so much. Check the compatibility list for things you want to play before getting too excited.

Edit: And to the person above me saying that PSX emulators barely work...you're doing it wrong. They've had nearly 100% compatibility since before the PS2 even came out (i.e. ten years ago at this point). I never even owned a PSX because even while the system was still the current generation, I could buy the games legitimately at the store and play them on my computer just fine. PS2 emulation is still far, far from that point, but most older systems have been sorted out years and years ago.

Collectability. People still want it, and the price finds it's own depending on how many want it and how many copies are available. Some of the really old game systems go for more money then they originally sold for now. Besides it's not $40, you can still find copies for $20 online.

Ico costs that much because its relatively rare and highly sought after, almost no other old PS2 games cost that much.

No offense, but I call crap. The top of the line metascore games (God of War, GTA's, Gran Turismo Resident Evil 4, etc.) practically litter the used shelves at Gamestops and indie used game stores.
There are rarer ones, to be sure, but all it takes is patience. Okami took two visits (and 14 bucks), We <3 Katamari actually pulled a record 19.99 outta me, and Culdcept was a bit of a bear, but in the end was only $6. And yeah, I'm sure some of those you consider crap, but tatses differ. And I've seen Ico, Disgaea, and a couple of the other "rare" titles, but just didn't feel like shelling out 20 bucks.

So, OT: cheap is easy - and if you want free, I got no sympathy for you.

Now, if anyone can figure out how I can get a decent copy of Wizardry 8 fer less than 50 bucks, I'd be interested...

Short answer No, Long answer No

Its just not worth it at all, Firstly you would need a pretty powerful PC. Even if you do have a good PC Finding at the files (bios plugins ect) and to get them running smoothly would be a task in itself and not to mention the games either (your service provider proberly won't like you downloading huge files and will proberly charge you if you download too much). Also in certain countries especially America (as they have laws passed on it) the downloading of roms is considered illegal shouldn't be a problem if you live in the UK but still.
