Hey guys, I got my PS2 out of my loft recently, after selling my PS3 as I use my PC for gaming, I picked up my copy of FFX and thought... "Why do games nowadays have little or no re-playability?". Do you guys also think that the games that have been coming out in the last 2 years or so, say, Modern Warfare 2, will have as much pick up and play value in 5 years as Super Mario is today. Now, you might say that comparing the two games is irrelevant as they are so different, and I would agree with you, but the fact is, when the next big thing comes out, would you even look at it? I do occasionally go back to COD4 sometimes, its just so much fun. :D
And I remember the whole days of fun I had when I was younger, but i don't have so many memories of the newer games :/

Oh! And would you kindly suggest some really great, I mean EPIC games for the PS1/2 that I could buy to actually enjoy gaming again :)

Some games that would be as fun and re-playable as -

Final Fantasy X
Crash Bandicoot
Rayman

Games that people have replied with that I now remember :)

GTA : San Andreas + Vice City + III
Abe's Odyssey
Spryo (PS1)

Those are the only ones I have played though, I'm making a List :D
Thanks guys!
Coincidentally, I'm playing through FFXII for the first time atm (I bought it release day but forgot about it 20 hours in lol) and I had the urge to play X. Tho unfortunately I sold my copy (guhh) so now I have to track down a non-platinum copy of it.

Star Ocean 2. Every now and then I pick it up and play for like 30 hours, but I have never finished it..

Everyone says FFX.
Am I the only one to see how flawed that game actually is?

Every game is flawed. FFX is still one of the better JRPGs out there.
Might I point you both to the Spoony one's opinion of Final Fantasy X, and I think he'd call any description of FFX of "Flawed" as being the understatement of the decade.

Yeah, and if you want more comedy gold intense mental suffering, you can see his review of Final Fantasy 8.

Needless to say, I think ShroomMinus will like these videos more than Amnesiac.

I played Final Fantasy X though quit on the 5th hour... as Jesus Christ I could NOT FUCKING STAND Meg Ryan Titus and how the cast is full of characters who are on par with Jar Jar Binks of annoyance level. That and the plot just did not hook me like Final Fantasy 7 or 9 did.
That review is awesome :]
I kind of agree with it though.
I finished FFX, I was okay, but not great.
Re-playability is not good.

To be honest, yeah, I suppose you could like Episode 3 as just a flash in the pan summer blockbuster... but it's a fucking insult to hold it up next to any of the Original Star Wars trilogy and the same applies for MGS even-numbers vs MGS odd-numbers... same director... totally different standard.
Alright, if you say so. I still enjoyed them for the price they were bought. Yes, I do agree with MGS4 being a bit annoying as most of the time you crawl around to get from place to place, but after a couple of playthroughs, I started to figure out and create new strategies of stealth, using a more CQC approach while still being hidden (and sometimes just taking a chance by running around a bit). Of course, during most battles between PMCs and some other team, most of the time you'll still have to crawl through.

I'll also agree with you on MGS2. While I didn't hate it, it was by far the worst MGS game in the series. They could have made it cool and fun if they just kept Snake the main character, and didn't make you go on crappy tasks such as spraying bombs. But, some of the boss fights were still pretty cool, such as the last one, and Vamp (and I liked Fatman :p).

But, lets just let the OP decide whether he wants to play MGS2 or not.

Yeah, need for speed in the old days were great, especially Underground 2, that was one of my favorites.

I don't know if these have already been suggested, but honestly, it's impossible to recommend them enough: the Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank games for the PS2 are absolutely incredible and definitely worth playing. Plus, with the games you listed as memorable (specifically, Crash and Spyro), they sound right up your alley, especially considering they are made by those two same developers.
Hmm, well I played Ratchet and Clank on ps3, is the ps2/1 versions a better standard?

Thanks for agreeing, haha :)

FF7, is it as immersive as FFX?

Also, people saying a lot about Timesplitters, whats it like?
Eh probably not as immersive in some senses, like since there is no voice acting and worse graphics, but the story and characters are still amazin, 7 and 10 are joined as my fav's^^

And yea timesplitters is amazin, its just mad and frantic, one of the best multiplayer shooters around, and also class single player, rly hope they make another one :)

Well, it's all personal opinion really. Personally, I thought that the newer Ratchet & Clanks were definitely good, but slightly better on the PS2. They just seem to be more about addictive gameplay and less about creating a cinematic experience, which I find more compelling. Honestly though, even if you'd rather have the cinematic experience, I'd still recommend the older Ratchet games to you; even if you don't like them as much as the new ones, you'll without a doubt still enjoy them.

Twisted Metal. Any of them excluding 3 and 4 really. Though I especially recommend 2 and Black. 2 isn't serious at all (its actually PS1 but with backwards compatibility its fine) but the graphics aren't the best. Also it has a lot of replay value due to the many different and fun characters. Black on the other time is more serious but has better graphics and improved combat. Also the stories are likely to freak the shit out of you. Both have great soundtracks as well plus replay value through multiplayer, challenges, arena levels, unlockable levels, unlockable characters.

I second Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy since its great fun and everything else listed. I also further second Devil May Cry and would say that for me 2 was my favourite. It had three different characters (one unlockable) all with very different play styles. Also it has a ton of unlockable difficulties which are a lot of fun (I'm still stuck on a boss on Dante Must Die mode). Finally there is an extra arena mode for fighting which is a lot of fun.

God Of War 1, 2. Ratchet Gladiator. (I know, but it's actually really cool) Burnout Revenge. Kingdom Hearts. Timesplitters 2. I enjoy the Tony Hawks games... Okami. Destroy All Humans. The Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time trilogy. Spiderman (I though 2 was the best). Enter The Matrix is amazing. Deus Ex. GTA games obviously. (3 onwards) Also, the first three Spyro games on Playstation. The first three or so Crash Bandicoot games. Tekken. Mortal Kombat. I should have more, but I be tired. Goodnight all.

Dark Cloud used to be my absolute favourite game for the PS2. It's fairly repetitive, but great fun nonetheless.

A friend of mine (who can't really afford a ps3: he works at the university) recently asked me this and I got some good answers for him here.

Most of the really epic games (Like Fallout 3) are available (and better) on the PC anyway. You should've waited to sell until you played GoW3.

I see you already have San Andreas on your list: that's probably THE most epic of all ps2 games. Besides just playing through it, there are so many unlockables and things to do with the unlockables, that game kept me busy for a long time.
Still, it's better on the pc.

We Love Katamari and Burnout Revenge are a couple of other ps2 games that took up a lot of my time.
