In what could only be described as an 'uncharacteristic' move by Sony, it's been announced that the PS2, which is currently outselling their latest baby the ps3 by a hefty margin, is going open source. What this means is that developers no longer have to tie themselves to a 'liscensed' publisher to get their game on the market which should, acording to George Bain, Sony Europe's developer relations manager, make life easier for low key developers developing for local markets.
Games developed for the ps2 can now be published, regardless of Sony's thoughts on the content, providing the developers go with a 3rd party publisher. This opens the door for all kinds of indie/low budget titles, horrendous shovelware and, of course, those pornographic adventure games you've all been dreaming of. Personally I can't wait.

Basically developers no longer have to put a game through Sony's quality/content control system. Making life a lot easier for Indie developers.
