The days of the PS2 Jrpg seem to be coming to an end. Sure, earlier this year a few trickled across the sea from Japan, but ultimately, I wonder if we are seeing the end of an era.

The PS2 in my opinion is the king of console RPGs, and nobody seems able to come even close. Sure the DS and the PSP have a few, but the xbox and the PS3 seem devoid of RPG's, excluding a few western or action rpg titles like Fallout and Fable.
So is this the end? or are are companies like Atlus simply focusing now on the current consoles and getting away from the PS2? Is anyone aware of any titles that came out in 2010 or will be coming out this year that we should be on the lookout for?

*looks at Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 and FFX and persona games I haven't played but hear are awesome* *Tries to think of good console JRPGs. Eternal Sonata?* Yeah, the PS2 was pretty awesome like that. If anything is replacing it, I'd say the DS is. It's got all the old FFs, Pokemon, Dark Dawn, and the excellent The World Ends With You. I'm sure there's also a bunch of other lesser known ones that escape me right now. But the DS is probably the current champ.

As sad as it is to say, the PS2 is more or less dead. The PS3 has finally started to pick up steam in nearly all markets (especially Japan, where it has had months where it actually outsold the Wii!!) and is well on its way to superseding the PS2 in the public consciousness.

There have been a couple good console JRPGs released lately. Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Valkyria Chronicles, Star Ocean 4, Last Remnant, and of course Final Fantasy XIII (which, to be fair, has been fairly divisive but has scored well critically).

Its sad to see the end of an era, the PS2 really had some gems on it and holds a lot of nostalgia for me.

Yeah, the only thing left with the PS2 is catching up on the RPGs you didn't have a chance to play when they came out.

Current gen consoles are also starting to get some good ones. Tales of Vesperia is one that really stands out, Catherine should likely be awesome to most Persona fans, there's a few others that are noteworthy as well.

You're more right than you know, considering Steam has been announced for the PS3.

But yes, the PS2 is dying. A real shame, too - I'm going to miss it, not least because I can't afford a PS3 or 360. Still, plenty more games to get for it if I can ever afford to (hint: I can't). Huge library and so forth.
