Right, I have my PS3 hooked up to my TV by Component wires, and it is putting in a signal of 1080i, and when I put in a PS3 game or Blu Ray, the screen flickers, non stop unless i turn tje PS3 off.
The TV is a 42" Plasma, and when I put my Xbox 360 through component wires also doing 1080i, and have no issues.

Can anyone help?

Also, I have tried putting it to 720p, but it is actually worse than 1080i for the flickering.

Same thing happened to my brother; it ended up being a faulty component input. Take it to a TV repairman, but don't be surprised when he dishes out a high repair cost.

There is one of the problems. Also did you ajust the PS3 itself to put out 1080i? The PS3 knows what HD power your TV has, so if it's wrong it's gonna do that.
Go read your trouble shooting guide, or just go the PlayStation 3 support website [http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps3]

Try the PS3 on another TV and if it works fine on this TV then your 42" TV has a dodgy component.
