I'm glad the PS3 is getting used, but this sort of thing will die down when the Cell Processor gets placed in other machines (with more RAM).

And that in turn will be replaced by the PS5, which uses a complex infarstructure-algorithm Cellular bipass chips with 3x the RAM and CPUs.

No Duh?

Seeing how Nintendo wiped the floor with both Sony and Microsoft this gen, how about Sony and MS team up for the next one? Sony can manage the hardware, thus guaranteeing us a powerful gaming system that explodes infrequently enough to avoid massive internet outcry, and let Microsoft handle the software, games and the online content.
I'm still not sure they could stop Nintendo's "sell them old hardware with one new gimmick" routine. Though, Sony hardware with microsoft software would be pretty interesting.
Consider the abomination that would be if we got a machine with Microsoft hardware and Sony software ;)

any one else remember the first versions of Playstation 2 that was only made in 1000 copies before being recalled since they could be used to guide missiles.
Haha. Yeah. How many data points before we call it a trend?

Funny enough, 1.5GB RAM isn't that much (well, for gaming), and if it's still used in the same way as the PS3 (that is, it is split in half, with no ability to use more than one half for one task), then it's going to drag down the PS5 processing ability. And really, three Cells? That brings with it heating and noise issues... like the Wii has shown, advances in technology (not application) don't always result in success.

Ha, an exploding XboxS3 would be fun to watch.

There is going to be a single man in Hawaii who here's of this news and begins a crusade against PS3's because their computing of black hole data, in his mind, will create quantum black holes that will devour the Earth. Several lawsuits later the PS3 will be banned. Society will then come to the realization of it's own ineptitude and weep for the future...

History channel show about how right my predictions are please.
Why in Hawaii?

Okay, did you seriously take that seriously?

And don't you know anything! The other machine you were talking about will already have 3 bipass-algorithm-based-cellular-chips, so the PS5 will have 9! And don't worry about heating and noise issues, don't you know? These chips will be the size of 1/5 of the chip we're using today using only 3/5ths of the neccisary power needed to power a lightbulb using brand new breakthroughs in stem-cell researched cellular molecular fusion!

Break through technology! Using 21.763GB of RAM, all while using the newely advanced liquid nitrox-oxide-flouride-hydroxy-bipolar-cooling system, the PS6 will be quadruple the power of the PS4 and PS5 by over 9000GHz of raw CPU and Motherboard calculations and algorithimically mathamatically enhanced quad-tri-dupe-cores!

All while showing you 5920x9500 resolution, the true Hi-Hi-Hi-Hi-Def experience!

Don't delay! Order today!

It's a pity Sony killed Linux support, because I can guarantee that's what they where running.

I don't blame them for using a rack of PS3s for number crunching machines since I've also heard tails of them been strapped together to make cheap video rendering farms.

And sorry sony fan boys. This does not mean the PS3 is a super computer. It just means a rack of 16 of them make a budget super computer... but a rack quad core machines would have been better.

Wow, someone actually found a use for the PS3s hardware. Congratulations, you are a success Mr. Scientist Man.
