There is nothing firefly-ish about this except for the mid-west thing they have going on with the "frontier".

Anyway, when I first heard him talk about how the Rift Energy can change people, I immediately thought this could be some sort of Dead-Space/Bioshock like setup with plenty of insane people running around doing... insane things (>.>), their minds addled by this Rift stuff, however it seems they decided instead to send the game on a path of boring mediocrity with the whole "he's an outcast but not actually an outcast so he's rejected from society".
I'd honestly prefer it if it took a line more like Avatar where he comes to embrace some mental "ZOMG TEH RIFTS" faction of his own accord, but instead, he's just generic videogame badass no.4003.

The whole thing looks fairly shoddy, the Outcasts look ridiculous, the building-drop thing looks jarring and uninspired compared to what something like that COULD be (thinking about it in comparison to Red Faction, that building thing could be really good if done right) and generally the whole package looks a bit poo.

PS Isn't Warhawk supposed to be about dogfighting? like, in the air?

W/e...

Thanks, Warhawk guys. You do really great work. I'm looking forward to this.

But, and this is an open letter to any development house trafficking in flight or vehicle combat sims of nearly any water, if you're going to do anything space-flight themed, please just go eat LucasArt's lunch and shamelessly rip off X-Wing and Tie-Fighter, any way you can. You will make a mint, or at least my $60-120, and hopefully steal fire from the stupid blind jealous senile old gods who constantly keep it to themselves. Or something. Mainly, I just wish I could play X-Wing/Tie Fighter again, on anything.

Look at Freelancer (Privateer). My work here should be done.

Sigh.

1) Joy... another BROWN shooter.

2) Buildings falling from the sky looks silly.

3) So basically, they're turning everyone into an engineer?

4) Who else thinks the multiplayer will devolve into:

NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE! NEED A HOSPITAL HERE!

With the mention of Firefly I was ready to come in here and start ripping it apart, but this universe is hardly Firefly-ish; seems more like Borderlands with a mix of Mech Warrior.
yeh, i was thinking, what? Sci fi = Firefly? Kind of a shitty comparison.
Huh... so a game about the human race colonizing border planets and having to fight an enemy that is a violently mutated version of themsevles is nothing like Firefly. Alright then.

Kinda reminds me of Savage and Savage 2 with the whole "Build and Battle" thing...no wait, it fully reminds me of that. Interesting...

I am, I really liked Warhawk, and in fact I still go back to it from time to time with my buddies. Nothing like playing 4 player split screen online and finishing your objective solely because the 4 of you could communicate so easily. Sometimes we had LAN parties and went online and would shout order across the room.

This looks really good, and it's the perfect example of a developer doing everything right in a spiritual successor.

Damn, Starhawk looks really friggin' kickass.

I loved Warhawk during the time I played it. It's multiplayer was great, if frustrating at times since I sucked at dog fighting and it took forever to get into as there was no tutorial.

I like hearing from the guy himself. He really seems enthusiastic about the game, and while the story is probably going to be absolutely nothing special whatsoever, it's nice to see them actually put some sort of effort and thought into their universe. He sounded like they really thought hard about how they wanted to build the character of Emmet. Probably going to be a standard story with no deeper aspects to it, but still.

The "build & battle" system looks really cool, but it could lead to problems mainly in balance. If you can just drop a turret whereverthefuck you want to drop it, it could easily lead to exploits on, say, a hill that nobody can reach that the turret glitched into, or dropping a dozen buildings on your enemies for an easy insta-kill.

Still, color me extremely intrigued.

Which part bothers you? The tautology?
no, i mean the fact that he's assuming that people loved his game, and that warhawk was good enough to warrant a sequel.

Warhawk was a huge title for early PS3 adopters. I was one of them. This and Oblivion were all I played for a while. The game is great! It felt a lot like Battlefield 1942 but in the future with easier to control planes... and in 3rd person.

I am excited for this game, I was a fan of the last game. So he is right and knows his audience. You just may not be part of that audience. What makes that cringe worthy? I don't know.

FUCK. YES!

Been waiting for some info on this for a while and I am not dissapointed. Warhawk was amazingly fun and this looks incredible. *Imagines 32 player battles with bunkers, forcefield generators and turrets falling from the sky whilst people stomp around in mechs that transform into jets*

If anyone does not see the awesome potential in that then something is wrong.

1) People DID love his game and 2) it IS good enough for a sequel.

I think the point people are trying to make was that it doesn't feel westerny, more generic... sci-fish stuff...

Well that's surprisingly epic. It's nice to see a game taking the opposite approach, instead of gloating how everything can be blown up in their game (though they do that too) they gloat about how you can build the whole damn battlefield from the ground up.

Also, holy shit, Transformer mechs. Yeah, this could be incredibly awesome.
