I am running out of space on my ps3 and so I am thinking about getting the Toshiba - 320GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive and I want to know if it will work (if anyone uses one.) and are External Hard Drives good for getting more space on my ps3?

My friend upgraded the internal HD with a third party one. Was easy he said, just read up online. Probably cheaper than external too.

I've never used an external hard drive for my main hard drive, I've just used one to transfer data from my old 80 gig one to my new 300 gig one.

It might work, but again I'm not sure.

I'd ask around the Playstation forums, maybe someone there has the answer.

Grab a 9mm or 1mm thick 2.5-inch laptop drive and install that into your PS3. Won't void the warranty, and you can get up to 500GB for pretty cheap.

I don't think you can put save games and stuff on it, but you might be able to use it for music/videos. But I am not sure. If I were you I would just get an internal one and replace your old harddrive.

How big is your harddrive?

(out of curiosity)
80gigs.

if I were to get a internal hard drive thats about 100+gb. how much would that cost and which should I buy and where can I get a 80gb external hard drive to transfer all my data over to?

It probably wouldnt be a good idea to install games on it, it would be slower than the internal. But i use one all the time for films and tv shows. Any usb hard drive will work as long as you format it to fat32 instead of ntfs.

I would say it SHOULD work, but I've always held it as fairly taboo to use an external device in place of an internal. Always thought it created unneeded strain on the system.

I'd get a laptop hard drive, since you can get ones that are quite big, relatively cheap.
If that isn't an option for any reason, then an external hard drive dounds like a good plan.

An external hard drive does work on the PS3 if you format the hard drive with the PS3.
