PS3 Firmware 3.60 Bricking systems?

Hey, guys. Just wondering, is anyone else here having issues with the firmware 3.60? Like, I installed it, and now my system won't turn on. I try to turn it on and it just keeps flashing the red light at me (I have the old 60 Gig model).
I know I heard that Sony was gonna be like, banning Jailbroken PS3s, but mine wasn't. I've never pirated on a console in my life. The only thing I did to modify my system is install a bigger hard drive.

So I don't know what it is, the install process seemed to go fine, and then my system just shut off on me. Now it won't turn on. Help?

I get the feeling I shouldn't download this new firmware, then. I have no idea what's going on, but thanks for the heads up.

Actually, now that I examine it, it turned yellow for a moment. So this seems like one of those "Yellow Light Of Death" problems. Hopefully it's fixable then.
But yeah, it happened right after installing the new firmware.

Could just be unfortunate timing then. But yeah, I think I'll hold off on updating until I hear something more on this as well.

Well, I may update to 3.60 and check it myself...

But, you now mention it seems to be the YLOD, so... yeah. :/

And, if it is a 60GB launch, odds are it will not be fixable. :/

I have been useless and I apologize for wasting your time with my senseless rambling.:/

EDIT: Now updating to 3.60. I'll tell you guys how it goes for me. :p

Wish me luck. (O_O)

FW 3.60 = self-destructing console

Xbox 360 = self-destructing console

Coincidence?

Luckily this wasn't my main PS3. The Blu-Ray reader gave out on it a year ago. So I have a slim PS3, which I'm afraid to update now.
Still, this one I've been using to play my PS2 games, and I really don't want to go out and buy a used PS2 with memory cards, new controllers, and all that crap all over again. But majority of my games are on the PS2, so I might have to. So this totally blows.

Would you mind sending me a message (or quoting this one) when you have the results on your update.

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem on my side though.

Hey, send ME the results too. I own a 60 gig model as well, currently running 3.50 and acutely aware of the YLOD which sometimes appears on our consoles.

Updated, seems fine. testing it out with some Metal Gear Solid 4. :p

Though, mine is actually a 120GB Slim, so sorry if I mislead you guys into thinking I was testing it on a 60GB. :/

EDIT: Though, I suggest you both take the general safety measures with your 60GB. This update may be the one that kills it, or in the case of you OP, may already have. :/

Well, at least I know that I can update my slim...
As for my 60 gig... Yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do with it. All the "simple" solutions didn't work. So it's either take it apart and go at it with a saudering gun, which I know nothing of.
Or pay Sony $150 to fix it.
But honestly, I'm ready to give up on it. I mean, $150... If I can set myself up with a new PS2 and accessories for less than $100, then I'll just do that. Otherwise, I might just go ahead and get it fixed, I do need my PS2 games.

But I did notice something, the part where I plug in the power supply, it is a little loose. Now, I know that the Yellow Light is sometimes caused by problems with the power supply, so that might be it. I just think it's strange that the problem occurred while my PS3 was on and functioning. Still, I'm thinking that's the problem.

I hope that it's not cause your console is modified cause I've modified mine because my origional blu ray laser broke and I had to replace it. :S

No, this just seems like a genuine case of the YLOD.

Because, upgrading your HDD is actually fully condoned by Sony and does not even void your warranty.

Seems like every PS3 firmware update has bricked a few unlucky individuals' PS3s. Pretty sure Sony has moved on from full-on douchebaggery to a serious career in trolling.
I know right? It's like they are trying to see how many people they can piss off. :p

Actually... not... really. :/

Modification, yes. Modified in the sense that you fucked with the console to an unholy extent? No. :p

No, I know. But maybe the issue is that as a result of a new hard drive that stores so much memory, it ends up running hotter, and as a result, overheats the system?

From what I've read, one of the reasons the Yellow Ring happens is because of overheating, the motherboard loses the connection to the processor, or something of the sort...

EDIT: This issue is pretty ironic though. Considering this update was supposed to allow you to save your games to online memory, the cloud... And now, if I lose my PS3, all my game saves will be gone.

I was about to say, "There goes modding my PSP" then I realised it was for PS3.

Unless you've modified the Hardware (minus HDD) or the software you shouldn't have problems, If you have you should also understand the risks you take with modding Consoles/Handhelds.
